  • Patent number: 6293014
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improvement in a fixation roll consisting of several heat pipes embedded in the thick wall of the hollow cylindrical core in the axial direction, and features the fact that each of the heat pipes consisting of a copper tube and encapsulated water as the operating fluid is heated to allow the water as the operating fluid to evaporate to generate pressure and cause the heat pipe to expand and tightly fit onto the inner wall surface of the cylindrical bore in the core so as to form an integral and monolithic structure comprising the heat pipe and the core. Since the heat pipe is firmly fitted to the inner wall surface of the cylindrical bore in the core, a high quality fixation roll exhibiting a uniform surface temperature distribution is provided. Since the installation of the heat pipe is effected by means of the tube expansion, no strict dimensional control of the diameters of the bore for inserting the heat pipe as well as the heat pipe is required.

  • Patent number: 6272309
Abstract: The present invention provides a fixing apparatus which can secure a sufficient fixing performance even if a nip pressure is arranged in relatively low value. A fixing apparatus comprises a fixing member (12, 36) having an elastic layer (12B, 36B) formed on the fixing member at a side to which a sheet surface supporting an unfixed toner is contacted; a pressing member (18, 38) for making the sheet surface supporting the unfixed toner contact to the fixing member (12, 36) with a particular pressure and forming a nip portion between the fixing member and the pressing member; and a heating means (20) heating the fixing member(12, 36), wherein 0.05≦P·t/E≦0.50 is satisfied, where t (mm) is thickness of the elastic layer (12B, 36B), E (Pa) is Young's modulus of the elastic layer (12B, 36B) and P (Pa) is pressure in the nip portion.

  • Patent number: 4757347
Abstract: Disclosed is an oil applying roller provided in contact with the surface of a fixing roller of an electrophotographic copying apparatus. The oil applying roller comprises a core member, an oil retaining layer and a surface layer. The surface layer has less oil retaining ability than that of the oil retaining layer. Thus the oil applying roller can supply a small amount of oil to the fixing roller stably.
