  • Publication number: 20120117478
Abstract: Defining and applying policies to manage data traffic including data transmitted and/or received by each of a plurality of applications executing on a computing device. The data traffic is monitored per application and attributes are defined for the monitored data traffic to enable the user to evaluate the data traffic for each application. Usage patterns are determined based on the monitored data traffic and the attributes to create one or more policies. The policies are applied to prevent each application from exceeding a corresponding data usage limit defined by the policies.

  • Patent number: 7750979
Abstract: A pixel-data processing circuit delivers a fixed number of pixels to a video processing stage using an irregular sampling pattern that is defined by a variably-definable sampling window. In one example embodiment directed to processing an input stream of pixels corresponding to an array of video pixels, the window size is selected from one of various options for sampling subsets of the array as a two-dimensional window that spans the pixels in the array. A sampling-window is used such that the window size is a multiple of the sampling-window size and the sampling-window size defines the fixed number of pixels.

  • Publication number: 20100153459
Abstract: Populating a contact entry with selected entity information based on an identifier associated with a call (e.g., a telephone call, VoIP call, text message, electronic mail message, or any other communication). As the call is detected, entity information for the identifier (e.g., a telephone number, VoIP address, MAC address, etc.) is generated. The entity information is filtered based on a category of the entity information, user preferences, location of a computing device (e.g., mobile telephone) of the user, or other filtering criteria. The filtered entity information is associated with the contact entry for the identifier, thereby enhancing the contact entry while reducing typing on the computing device. In some embodiments, additional information such as advertisements for a competitor of the entity are provided to the user.

  • Publication number: 20080248749
Abstract: Techniques for increasing the battery life on a mobile device by decreasing the energy consumption of the mobile device's wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) interface are described. In one embodiment, the mobile device's Wi-Fi interface is automatically disabled when the device is not engaged. When the device receives a wake up call from a server via its Cellular interface, the Wi-Fi interface is enabled if the device answers the wake up call and the Wi-Fi interface is available. Using its Wi-Fi interface, the mobile device then connects to an IP-based network via a Wi-Fi access point.

  • Publication number: 20080247344
Abstract: Techniques for increasing the battery life on a mobile device by decreasing the energy consumption of the mobile device's wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) interface are described. In one embodiment, the mobile device's Wi-Fi interface is automatically disabled when the device is not engaged in a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) call via the Wi-Fi interface. When a VoIP call is initiated on the device, or when the device receives a wake up call from a server via its Cellular interface, the Wi-Fi interface is automatically enabled. Using its Wi-Fi interface, the mobile device then connects to an IP-based network via a Wi-Fi access point. The server then initiates a direct call, wherein VoIP technology is used by the mobile device, between the mobile device and a VoIP calling device.

  • Publication number: 20050001762
Abstract: A method of and computer-readable medium containing instructions for high accuracy, reliable position determination. A high precision GPS-RTK system using the present novel techniques is initialized instantaneously or near instantaneously. To improve the computational efficiency and to improve the reliability of the procedure, advances in data functional and stochastic modeling, validation criteria, adaptation and system design were achieved. A position estimate using an integrated method is determined. Ambiguity resolution of the position estinate is enhanced by applying a quality control procedure using derived validation criteria. A second position estimate based on the enhanced ambiguity resolution is derived.

  • Publication number: 20050001763
Abstract: A method of, apparatus for, and computer-readable medium for rapid, real time kinematics determination requiring lowered information transmission for position updates than traditional RTK systems. Position signals are received from a base station and roving system and a compressed position signal is received from the base station. A position estimate using an integrated method is determined using the received position signals from the base station and the roving system and the compressed position signal from the base station. Ambiguity resolution of the position estimate is enhanced by applying a quality control procedure using derived validation criteria. A second position estimate is derived based on the enhanced ambiguity resolution. Because of the use of the compressed position signal smaller transmissions may be performed at a more rapid rate providing a higher position update rate.

  • Patent number: 6438938
Abstract: An apparatus for use in the bearing compartment of a gas turbine engine includes a first conduit and a second conduit. The first conduit defines inner and outer surfaces between an inlet end and an outlet end. The second conduit defines inner and outer surfaces between an inlet end and an outlet end. At least a portion of the second conduit is substantially coaxial with and enclosed by at least a portion of the first conduit. One of the first conduit or the second conduit is a lubricant feed to the bearing compartment. The other of the first conduit and the second conduit is the air vent from the bearing compartment.

  • Patent number: 6283707
Abstract: An aerofoil blade damper comprising an elongate member which is inserted within a core passage of the blade and extends within the blade with the damper retained therein at one end which is closest to the blade root with the remainder of the damper free to move relative to and within the passage; such movement generating friction which dissipates any vibration. The damper comprises a plate insert including at least two discrete substantially oppositely directed contact regions which are arranged, in use, to frictionally engage the passage. The discrete contact regions may be provided by protrusions in the form of contact pads or arms extending from the plate or be provided by the corrugations of the plate. A contact load on the contact regions is provided by the resilience of the damper, an interference fit of the damper and/or centrifugal loading of the damper and contact regions during operation.

  • Patent number: 6267557
Abstract: A damping member (27) for positioning between the undersides of the platforms of adjacent turbine blades (20) and the peripheral surface of a disc (19) upon which the turbine blades (20) are mounted. The damping member (27) comprises first, second and third portions (28,31 and 32). The first portion (28) simultaneously engages the adjacent blade platforms (24) whereas the second and third portions (31,32) converge to engage each other at the disc (19) peripheral surface from a spaced apart relationship with each other at their attachment to the first portion (28). Frictional interaction between the second and third portions (31,32) and the disc (19) peripheral surface provides damping of turbine blade (20) vibration.
