  • Publication number: 20170138023
Abstract: According to an example, a system for managing a fluid condition in a pipe includes a controller to receive temperatures of the pipe detected by the temperature sensor over a period of time. The controller may determine, based upon the temperatures of the pipe over the period of time, a temperature profile of the pipe and may determine that the temperature profile of the pipe indicates that a freezing onset event has occurred. The freezing onset event may include a transition from a drop in temperature to an increase in temperature, in which the temperature during the transition is below a freezing point temperature of a fluid contained in the pipe. The controller may further trigger at least one of an alarm and an activation of a first freezing prevention device in response to the determination that the freezing onset event has occurred.

  • Publication number: 20160152966
Abstract: In one aspect, the invention relates to a peptide that forms a calcium-dependent hydrogel using a rationally engineered beta roll peptide. In the absence of calcium, the peptide is intrinsically disordered. Upon addition of calcium, the peptide forms a corkscrew-like structure. In one embodiment, one face of the beta roll is mutated to comprise leucine residues. In some embodiments, a leucine zipper forming helical domain to the engineered beta roll forms hydrogels by physical cross-linking in calcium rich environments.

  • Patent number: 8942013
Abstract: A system and method for protecting an electrical power generation system from an over-voltage. The output voltage of a multi-phase rectifier, operatively connected between the output terminals of an electric machine and a load, is monitored. The input of the multi-phase rectifier is short-circuited upon detection that the output voltage has reached a threshold voltage. Removal of the short-circuiting of the input of the multi-phase rectifier is synchronized with a substantially zero-crossing of phase current flowing through switching devices in the rectifier once the output voltage is no longer above the threshold voltage.
