  • Patent number: 7102770
Abstract: The system and methods described herein relate to reporting the supply level of a marking agent (e.g., toner) in a print device cartridge. An algorithm executes to smooth over inaccuracies in measured values received from a hardware supply level sensor. Through seeding an initial report level and adjusting that level based on average groups of sensor readings that exclude outlying values, the algorithm facilitates supply level reports that follow a naturally decreasing trend throughout the life of a print device cartridge.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 13, 2001
Date of Patent: September 5, 2006
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Trevor A. Wells, Kevin A. Owen
  • Patent number: 7069462
Abstract: Scheduling operation modes of a managed device. A method embodiment of the present invention includes providing a device remote from the managed device with an interface enabling selection of options for scheduling the occurrence of operation modes for the managed device. Options selected through the interface are received from the remote device. The occurrence of operation modes of the managed device are then scheduled according to received options.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 30, 2003
Date of Patent: June 27, 2006
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.

  • Publication number: 20020097425
Abstract: An electronic document file, known as a Features Page, may be stored in the read-only or static memory of a hardcopy device. At a point of sale, a potential customer can have the hardcopy device print a hardcopy of the Features Page so that the customer has a quick reference to the selling points of the device which can be taken with the customer and referred to at the customer's convenience. The Features Page in the hardcopy device can also be updated to reflect awards and reviews the product has received. The Features Page is updated, for example, by downloading an updated Page from a host system or the Internet.

  • Patent number: 6275664
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining whether or not sufficient consumable supplies such as toner or ink and print media, for example, are available to an imaging device such as a printer to complete a submitted print job. The method determines the amount of selected consumable supplies remaining and, based on the requirements of a submitted print job and historical data gathered over the lifetime of the imaging device, calculates the amount of consumable supplies required for the print job and compares that to the amount of consumable supplies available. If insufficient consumable supplies are available, the user is notified of the condition. The user then knows at the time the print job is submitted that sufficient consumable supplies are available and that the print job will be complete and available at the printer. The user is further notified that specific consumable supplies are in need of replenishment.
