  • Publication number: 20080221150
Abstract: The present disclosure describes the use of macrolide antibiotics to prevent neurodegeneration and to treat or prevent disease and conditions which involve neurodegeneration. While not being limited to a specific mechanism of action, in one embodiment, the macrolide antibiotics inhibit neurodegeneration caused by lysosomal and/or mitochondrial dysfunction. The present disclosure contemplates the use of any macrolide antibiotic and pharmaceutically acceptable derivatives thereof. In a specific embodiment, the macrolide antibiotics include bafilomycin A1, bafilomycin B1 and concanamycin.

  • Publication number: 20060003117
Abstract: A product and a process for the preparation of a precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) and an ink jet recording paper, incorporating the precipitated calcium carbonate is disclosed. The precipitated calcium carbonate is dewatered and comminuted in the presence of an amphoteric and/or anionic dispersant to produce a high solids PCC composition. When used in coating formulations the PCC has a surface morphology and chemistry that enhances the printability of ink jet paper. Ink jet recording paper incorporating the PCC of the present teachings has reduced ink feathering and spreading as well as improved optical density, dry time, and water fastness.

  • Publication number: 20050221026
Abstract: A thermal ink jet recording paper, incorporating dewatered and milled precipitated calcium carbonate (“PCC”) is disclosed. Precipitated calcium carbonate is dewatered and milled in the presence of an amphoteric or anionic dispersant to produce a high solids PCC composition. When used in coating formulations the PCC has a surface morphology and chemistry that enhances the printability of ink jet paper. Ink jet recording paper incorporating the PCC of the present invention has reduced ink feathering and spreading as well as improved optical density, dry time, and water fastness.

  • Patent number: 6622754
Abstract: A method of determining a dish load for an automatic dishwasher and a method of operating the automatic dishwasher based on the dish load. The dish load is determined by determining a first temperature corresponding to the temperature of the dishes, determining a second temperature corresponding to the temperature of a charge of water prior to a time when the charge of water contacts and transfers heat to the dishes, determining a third temperature corresponding to the temperature of the second charge of water when the temperature of the second charge of water and dishes have equalized, and calculating a temperature ratio of the difference between the second and third temperatures and the difference between the third and first temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5902727
Abstract: A method for localizing and quantitating a target substance in a biological sample is disclosed. The method utilizes an enzyme-linked probe that binds to the target substance and generates a depositable chromogenic or fluorogenic substance which detects position and a soluble chromogenic or fluorogenic substance which allows quantitation in the medium bathing the sample.

  • Patent number: 4613586
Abstract: Novel peptides having gastrin releasing peptide-like activity having the structures Ala-Pro-Val-Ser-Val-Gly-Gly-Gly-Thr-Val-Leu-Ala-Lys-Met-Tyr-Pro-NH.sub.2 and Gly-Asn-His-Trp-Ala-Val-Gly-His-Leu-Met-NH.sub.2, have been isolated from rat and guinea pig brain extracts and synthesized by a solid phase peptide synthesis methods. The GRP-like peptides are useful as pharmaceuticals to lower body temperature, increase respiratory activity, reduce food intake, stimulate pancreatic hormone release, stimulate pituitary hormone release and suppress thyroid hormone release in mammals.
