  • Publication number: 20040008624
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for a reduced peak EMI bus using variable bit rate spreading. A method for reducing radiated Electro-Magnetic Interference from a wire communication bus transferring data between one or more physically separate modules or units comprises changing a data clock period controlling a rate of data bits on a communications bus. A Distributed Systems Interface communication bus data transmission protocol includes: alternating a data bit-rate between a first bit-rate and a second bit-rate on a bit-by-bit basis; transmitting a bit over the distributed systems interface communication bus according to the alternating data bit-rate; and varying a difference between the first bit-rate and the second bit-rate.

  • Patent number: 6332906
Abstract: Aluminum-silicon alloys having high stiffness are used in forming computer memory disks and actuator arms. Disks formed with the alloy have low flutter and can be spun at 12,000 RPM or greater with a flutter of 10 Å or less.

  • Publication number: 20010011954
Abstract: A wireless personnel locator system includes a plurality of low power, compact, radio frequency (RF) transmitters adapted to continuously transmit narrow band modulated or spread spectrum modulated signals, including a transmitter identification code or serial number. Designated public areas such as retail merchant complexes, exhibit halls, and entertainment complexes have identified RF receivers at designated locations, such as entrance and exit portals, for receiving transmitter signals and transmitting related information to a control center processing unit which correlates the received signals with a subscriber or authorized person for each of the transmitters. The transmitters may be incorporated in easily carried devices such as key chain fobs, integrated into pager devices or cellular phones or encapsulated in an elastic band worn by the user.

  • Patent number: 5698391
Abstract: Methods useful for the determination of oligomers which have specific activity for a target molecule from a pool of primarily randomly assembled oligomers are provided. The disclosed methods involve repeated syntheses of increasingly simplified sets of oligomers coupled with selection procedures for determining oligomers having the highest activity. Freedom from the use of enzymes allows the application of these methods to any molecules which can be oligomerized in a controlled fashion.

  • Patent number: 5645492
Abstract: A putting trainer having a planar base with a cover rotatably disposed over the planar base. The base has a plurality of target openings therein, with each of the openings having a different width. The cover has a single opening, and can be rotatably attached to the planar base so that an opening of a desired size can be selected as a target for putting training.

  • Patent number: 5442049
Abstract: Compositions and methods for modulating the effects of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections are disclosed, comprising contacting CMV mRNA with an oligonucleotide which can bind with at least portions of the CMV RNA. In accordance with the preferred embodiments, oligonucleotides such as ISIS 2922 are designed to bind with portions of the CMV mRNAs which code for the IE1, IE2 or DNA polymerase proteins. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, methods of treatment of human cytomegalovirus are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5187278
Abstract: A novel single-pot trialkylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (R.sub.3 Si-OTf) mediated process produces derivatives of 4-aza 3-keto steroids at the .alpha.-methylenic carbon through electrophilic substitution. These derivatives are useful in the preparation, through elimination of the substituent on the .alpha.-methylene carbon, of .DELTA.-1 olefin 4-aza 3-keto steroids which are potent inhibitors of 5-.alpha. reductase.

  • Patent number: 5120847
Abstract: A novel, facile, and specific process for .alpha.-iodinating or .alpha.-brominating the .alpha.-methylenic carbon of a straight chain, branched chain, or cyclic secondary amide, such as a lactam or an azasteroid, comprises reacting the amide with trialkylsilyl-X (R.sub.3 Si--X), where X is Br, I, or Cl, and R is methyl, ethyl, or n-propyl, in the presence of I.sub.2 or Br.sub.2. The .alpha.-iodo- or .alpha.-bromo-amide is useful for making the .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated amide through dehydrohalogenation.
