  • Publication number: 20100311146
Abstract: A mixing vessel (10) for containing a liquid, comprises a chamber having a lower chamber portion and an upper chamber portion wider than the lower portion, gas inlet means (14) for supplying gas to the lower portion, liquid circulation inducing means (17) and an inclined abutment (24), such that, when gas is supplied via the gas inlet means gas in the form of bubbles initially rises substantially vertically in liquid and is redirected in a substantially horizontal direction by the abutment.

  • Patent number: 7365847
Abstract: A system for automated excision of one or more samples from a sample media, including by using a device for electronically capturing one or more traits of samples in the media, using a microprocessor linked to the device to analyze the captured traits by comparison to reference databases, identifying samples of interest at location coordinates in the sample media, and automatically excising and processing the samples through the use of a novel robotic excision tool.

  • Publication number: 20050139533
Abstract: An electrophoresis device for use in separating a mixture of analytes in a fluid sample is provided, the device comprising a first dimension separation medium through which the analytes may migrate, the separation medium being carried on one face of a flexible sheet, the surface area of that face being greater than that of the region of contact between the separation medium and the sheet, wherein the first dimension separation medium is located within a first separation zone which is defined at least partly by the flexible sheet, the device further comprising a fluid chamber, separated from the first dimension separation zone by the flexible sheet, in which fluid may be retained in contact with that face of the sheet opposite to the face on which the separation medium is carried. The device may additionally comprise a second separation zone, in which a second separation medium may be located, in order to carry out a second dimension electrophoretic separation.

  • Patent number: 6302159
Abstract: An apparatus and method for chemical processing of multiple mixtures is disclosed. The apparatus provides selective purging of a liquid-phase of the mixtures. The apparatus can be used for processing many different types of mixtures under a wide variety of processing conditions, including but not limited to protein digestions, and is particularly well suited for processes requiring solid-liquid contacting. The apparatus includes an array of vessels or wells for containing the mixtures. The wells have openings that generally define a surface. A perforated plate and a film are disposed above the openings of the wells. The film is sandwiched between the perforated plate and the surface defined by the openings of the vessels, covering and sealing the vessels. A probe is used to perforate the film and to pressurize the vessels, which drives liquid out of the wells via through-holes formed in their bottoms.
