  • Patent number: 7995234
Abstract: A scanning device includes a scanning mechanism, a memory, a processing mechanism, and a scan rate adjustment mechanism. The scanning mechanism scans a media sheet having an image thereon at a variable scan rate, to yield raw data. The memory temporarily stores the raw data. The processing mechanism converts the raw data within the memory into processed data. The raw data is removed from the memory as the raw data is converted. The scan rate adjustment mechanism adjusts the variable scan rate, based on one or more of an amount of free space within the memory, a fill rate at which the raw data is filling the memory, and a removal rate at which the raw data is being removed from the memory, so that the memory does not become completely full.

  • Patent number: 7963516
Abstract: A media reproduction device has an input tray and an output tray. Commencement of a print job causes the output tray to move from a closed position to an open position. A gear attaches to the output tray, the gear being engaged with a pick transmission to move the output tray to the open position and being disengaged from the pick transmission so the output tray freely rotates while in the open position.

  • Publication number: 20100038847
Abstract: An automatic document feeder transmission includes a single electric motor mounted on a chassis. Motor actuates a power input gear that is rotatably mounted on the chassis and has gear teeth. A swing arm, rotatably mounted to the chassis, pivots about a swing arm pivot axis through an arc of travel. Arm has central and distal ends, the latter having gear teeth formed therein. Driving and driven pinions, each having mutually intermeshing gear teeth, are rotatably mounted to the arm. Driven pinion gear teeth also intermesh with power input gear teeth. A paper stop is rotatably mounted on the chassis. A catch, disposed on the arm, is selectively engageable with a wire spring disposed adjacent portion(s) of the travel arc, wherein arm rotation is selectively stopped in one direction and allowed in an opposite direction. Arm selectively switches between three discreet feeder modes and selectively actuates the paper stop.

  • Publication number: 20090322017
Abstract: A torque limiter may include a first member configured to rotate about a first axis and having a first contact surface. The torque limiter may include a second member configured to rotate about the first axis and including a first axially extending finger. The first finger may be radially biased so that a second contact surface defined by the first finger may contact the first contact surface with a normal force to define a predetermined torque value between the first and second members. When one of the first and second members is rotatably driven in a first rotational direction, the other of the first and second members may be rotatably driven in the first rotational direction unless a torque load greater than or equal to the predetermined torque value is applied to the other of the first and second members.

  • Publication number: 20090283964
Abstract: Systems and methods systems and methods for orienting media for improved scan quality are disclosed. In an exemplary implementation, a method may include receiving a transparency media in a media holder, and guiding the transparency media into the media holder. The method may also include accepting the transparency media in the media holder only if the transparency media is oriented with an emulsion side facing toward an imaging surface. The method may also include self-ejecting the transparency media from the media holder if the transparency media is oriented with the emulsion side facing away from the imaging surface.

  • Patent number: 7188837
Abstract: A media detection system includes a sensor and a flag. The flag is pivotally supported proximate to a media path through which media is moved. The flag pivots as media is moved through the media path such that the flag interacts with the sensor to cause the sensor to alternate between two states and to produce at least four signals representing positioning of the media along the path. The flag is configured to remain substantially in one angular position for a portion of time while the medium is moving and in contact with the flag.
