Publication number: 20230353804Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for enabling multiple users’ digital rights to be applied as needed to access media while those users are present to consume media. In particular, a media guidance application may receive a selection of a media asset and determine that the user equipment device does not allow access to the media asset. In response, the media guidance application may identify all the users consuming content from that user equipment device and retrieve digital rights for each user. The media guidance application may compare the digital rights of each user with digital rights required to access the media asset. The media guidance application may, based on the comparison, identify a set of digital rights (e.g., for another user present) that enable access to the media asset, and use those digital rights to access the media asset for consumption.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 1, 2023Publication date: November 2, 2023Inventors: Kevin Bruce Lenhart, Sean Matthews, Benjamin Holms Maughan

Patent number: 10776824Abstract: Identification information related to a device may be received that includes user information and device information. Based on the user information, a user entry corresponding to the user information may be located in a database of user records. It may be determined that the device information is not found in the user entry. A plurality of sales attributes may be determined in response. Those may include at least one of (1) a release date of the device and a purchase date indicating when the user purchased the device, and (2) a release price of the device and a current price of the device at the purchase date. Based on the information, a purchase metric may be computed and the device information stored in the previously purchased device field of the entry. Based on the purchase metric, a purchase metric threshold may be generated for recommending another device to the user.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2017Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: ROVI GUIDES, INC.Inventors: Kevin Bruce Lenhart, Paul Stathacopoulos, Sean Matthews, Benjamin Holms Maughan

Patent number: 10291958Abstract: Systems and methods are described for measuring audience engagement for a media asset using user motion. For example, a media guidance application may receive movement logs from a plurality of user equipment. These movement logs may contain information indicating when each of the plurality of users moved, as detected by motion sensors, while the user equipment was generating for display a media asset. The movement logs may be analyzed to determine time periods during the media asset during which greater than a certain number of the plurality of users were moving. These time periods may in turn be used to infer how engaged the plurality of users were during the media asset or what portions of the media asset the plurality of users viewed. This data may be used to determine in what media assets, or portions thereof, supplemental video content should be inserted.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2017Date of Patent: May 14, 2019Assignee: Rovi Guides, Inc.Inventors: Sean Matthews, Benjamin Maughan, Kevin Bruce Lenhart, Paul T. SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR RECOMMENDING AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE TO A USER BASED ON A USER'S DEVICE PROFILE
Publication number: 20180189856Abstract: Systems and methods are described for recommending a device to a user. Device entries for a first user and a second user may be retrieved. Attributes of devices of the first user may be compared with attributes of other devices of the first user. The same comparison may be made amongst devices of the second user. Based on the comparison, sets of devices may be generated where a level of similarity between each device in each set exceeds a threshold level of similarity. A characteristic may be identified that is unique for each set of devices. The unique characteristic for each set for the first user may be compared with a unique characteristic for each set for the second user to determine which sets for the first user match sets for the second user. If enough sets match, a device may be recommended from a set that does not match.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2017Publication date: July 5, 2018Inventors: Kevin Bruce Lenhart, Paul Stathacopoulos, Sean Matthews, Benjamin Holms Maughan -
