  • Patent number: 7057722
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting the homogeneity of a pharmaceutical mixture has a hopper for containing a mixture of two or more pharmaceutical components and that is situated within a production line of preparation of a pharmaceutical dosage form. A spectroscope is mounted to the hopper for measuring spectroscopic characteristics of the mixture, and a processing device that is not physically coupled to the spectroscope analyzes the spectroscopic characteristics of the mixture and derives information regarding the homogeneity of the mixture. The spectroscope wirelessly sends the spectroscopic characteristics to the processing device, which derives information regarding the homogeneity of the mixture. The wireless transmission of the spectroscopic characteristics can be done through infrared radiation or near infrared radiation, and the spectroscopic characteristics can be converted to digital signals prior to being transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6965108
Abstract: An infrared three-dimensional imaging system and method in which an object is irradiated by monochromatic radiation in the near-infrared or mid-infrared region of the spectrum. A spectral image is captured for each wavelength in a spectral range by a radiation detector to create a spectral image data block that is stored on a data storage device. The object is rotated by some predetermined angular increment until a complete three hundred and sixty degree view is obtained so that a spectral image data block is created for each angular position. Each spectral image data block is compressed to its most relevant spectral information and used to re-create a three dimensional image by a known computerized tomography algorithm.

  • Patent number: 6841792
Abstract: The present invention includes an ATR crystal system comprising: an ATR crystal, one face of the ATR crystal forming a portion of an interior surface of a containment vessel, a radiation source for creating a beam or radiation, the radiation sources optically connected to an input area of the ATR crystal; and a detector for recording the beam of radiation, the detector optically connected to an output area of the ATR crystal. The present invention also includes a method of sample analysis utilizing an ATR crystal embedded in a containment vessel comprising the steps of: providing a containment vessel having an ATR crystal embedded therein; generating a monochromatic beam of light; transmitting the beam to an input of the ATR crystal; transmitting the beam from an output of the ATR crystal to a detector; and recording a signal from the detector.

  • Publication number: 20030102433
Abstract: A hemispherical detector comprising a plurality of photodetectors arranged in a substantially contiguous array, the array being substantially in the shape of a half-sphere, the half-sphere defining a closed end and an open end, the open end defining a substantially circular face. Also provided is a method for constructing a hemispherical detector comprising the steps of making a press mold of the desired shape of the hemispherical detector, pouring a material into the press mold to form a cast, finishing the cast to remove any defects, coating the cast with a coating material, and attaching a plurality of photodetectors to the cast.
