Patent number: 9901499Abstract: A sensor for attachment to an inflatable air cell cushion designed to detect optimal immersion of the cushion user into the in the inflatable cushion. The immersion depth of a user positioned on the cushion is determined by sensing air pressure in the cushion. The sensor accurately reads changes in pressure as air exits the cushion to allow an algorithm to determine optimal internal cushion pressure for a user.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2014Date of Patent: February 27, 2018Assignee: ROHO, INC.Inventors: Leane Darnold, Kevin C. Meier, Thomas John Chaney, Glenn G. Fournie, Ross P. Peyton

Patent number: 9839300Abstract: A reduced outflow valve in fluid communication with an inflatable apparatus comprising a tubular body defining an inner bore and a plunger slidingly engaged in the bore. Inflation of the inflatable apparatus urges the plunger to a first position configured to allow rapid ingress of air into the cushion to inflate the cushion and deflation of the inflatable apparatus urges the plunger to a second position wherein the plunger is configured as a baffle to dampen or slow air egress during release of air.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2014Date of Patent: December 12, 2017Assignee: ROHO, INC.Inventors: Glenn G. Fournie, Kevin C. Meier

Patent number: 8777930Abstract: An adaptor for discriminating connection of an oral tip of a source of liquid enteral product to a feeding line. In one embodiment, the adaptor includes an internal stop in the body having a contact surface that is angled with respect to a transverse plane extending generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the connection port so that if the standard luer tip is inserted into the connection port, the luer tip does not make flush contact with the contact surface. In another embodiment, the adaptor includes an external stop surrounding the connection port generally adjacent to the first open end of the body. The adaptor may include an umbrella valve. In other embodiments, the adaptor includes a fluid release opening in fluid communication with the connection port extending generally radially through the adaptor body at a location spaced from the longitudinal ends of the body.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2009Date of Patent: July 15, 2014Assignee: Covidien LPInventors: David Rork Swisher, Kimberly A. Publication number: 20100198144Abstract: A controller for operating a pumping apparatus to supply fluid to a patient through a pump set includes a processor programmed to instruct a first source of electromagnetic radiation to emit electromagnetic radiation in a direction for striking a safety interlock of the pump set. The processor activates a first electromagnetic radiation detector to detect the electromagnetic radiation emitted from the first source. The processor activates a second electromagnetic radiation detector to detect the electromagnetic radiation emitted from the second source. The processor controls the pumping apparatus to operate for pumping fluid in the pump set only when electromagnetic radiation emitted from the first source is detected by the first detector and when the electromagnetic radiation emitted from the second source is not detect by the second detector.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 9, 2010Publication date: August 5, 2010Applicant: COVIDIEN AGInventors: Christopher A. Patent number: 7763005Abstract: A method of using a pump set on a pump to deliver a supply of liquid to a patient. The pumping apparatus has a control system for controlling operation of the pump. An electromagnetic radiation source is controlled by the control system to emit an electromagnetic radiation signal in a direction for striking a safety interlock device associated with the pump set. The safety interlock device affects the direction of the electromagnetic radiation. An electromagnetic radiation detector is operatively connected to the control system for receiving the electromagnetic radiation signal when the direction is affected by the safety interlock device, and provides an indication to the control system that the pump set conduit is properly positioned in the pump. The pump is controlled to pump liquid in the pump set only when electromagnetic radiation emitted from the first source is detected by the first detector.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2006Date of Patent: July 27, 2010Assignee: Covidien AGInventors: Christopher A. Patent number: RE43745Abstract: A probe cover for a tympanic thermometer probe comprises a generally tubular body having an opening for receiving the thermometer probe and an infrared transparent window at a distal end thereof. In one embodiment, a film support extends radially inward from the distal end of the body and supports an infrared transparent film spanning the window. The film support has an inner edge that is substantially free from corners turning in the plane of the window. A plurality of end ribs are spaced apart and disposed about an inner circumference of the distal end of the body to engage a distal end of the thermometer probe and form an insulating gap by preventing contact of the film by the thermometer probe. The insulating gap also extends proximally into spaces between the end ribs, reducing thermal contact between the thermometer probe and a circumferential inner surface of the probe cover.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2010Date of Patent: October 16, 2012Assignee: Tyco Healthcare Group LPInventors: Clarence Walker, Kevin C.
