Patent number: 11585449Abstract: An inner subassembly for assembling a valve assembly includes a spool defining a central bore that extends axially through the spool forming a spool annular wall, and including a spool cone tip that is disposed at the first axial end, as well as a hydraulic activation ridge extending radially outwardly from the spool annular wall, and that is disposed axially between the second axial end and the first axial end. The spool may further define a first bypass bore. A stem defines a first flow bore that aligns with the first bypass bore.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 2020Date of Patent: February 21, 2023Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: John Kevin Clemons, Cody T. Patent number: 11389916Abstract: Systems and methods can include applying, using a nut assembly including a first nut and a plurality of fasteners provided in respective threaded holes of the first nut, a first tensioning force for a stud of a hammer assembly. The systems and methods can also include applying, using the nut assembly, a second tensioning force for the stud of the hammer assembly. The first tensioning force can be applied with the first nut in a first orientation whereby a first end surface of the first nut faces a first direction and a second end surface of the first nut faces a second direction opposite the first direction. The second tensioning force can be applied with the first nut in a second orientation whereby the first end surface of the first nut faces the second direction and the second end surface of the first nut faces the first direction. The second tensioning force can be greater than the first tensioning force.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2021Date of Patent: July 19, 2022Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Cody Moore, Kevin Clemons

Patent number: 10975544Abstract: A work tool coupling assembly for a machine with a working implement. The work tool coupling assembly can include an excavator stick and a pin grabber coupler. The pin grabber coupler can include a first plate, a second plate, and a middle plate positioned between the first plate and second plate. The middle plate includes a portion protruding away from the first plate and second plate and is coupled to the excavator stick by a stick pin. The middle plate, the first plate, and the second plate are configured to couple with the working implement.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2020Date of Patent: April 13, 2021Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventor: Kevin Clemons

Patent number: 9518372Abstract: A hydraulic shear including a first jaw, a second jaw, a pivot pin, and an adjustment mechanism is provided. The first jaw includes a first and second sidewall defining a first and second opening therethrough. The second jaw is disposed between the first and second sidewalls and includes a third opening. The pivot pin extends through the first, second, and third openings to pivotally connect the first and second jaws. The adjustment mechanism is coupled to the first jaw, the second jaw, and the pivot pin. The adjustment mechanism slidably adjusts a position of the second jaw on the pivot pin with respect to first and second sidewalls of the first jaw.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2013Date of Patent: December 13, 2016Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventor: John Kevin Clemons

Patent number: 9333570Abstract: A piercing tip assembly has two piercing tips, each having two sets of piercing and shearing edges. The tip is reversible so that the tip can be detached from the shears, its orientation changed, and replaced on the shears so a fresh, sharp set of piercing and shearing edges is exposed during use. The tips are reverse by rotating each tip and replacing the tip mounted on the right side of the jaw, and switching the tip on the left side of the jaw to the right side, and the tip on the right side of the jaw to the left side. The piercing tip assembly protects a substantial portion of the upper jaw of a metal shears from wear.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2007Date of Patent: May 10, 2016Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: John Kevin Clemons, Jeffrey R. Peterson, John M. Stamey

Publication number: 20150197917Abstract: A piercing tip for a shear is disclosed. The piercing tip may have a first part configured to be secured to a jaw of the shear. The first part may have a first planar surface configured to abut a first side surface of the jaw. The piercing tip may also have a second part configured to be secured to the jaw and the first part. The second part may have a planar portion including an inner surface configured to abut a second side surface of the jaw. The second part may also have a projecting portion including an upper surface configured to abut a lower surface of the jaw, and a projecting surface abutting the first planar surface of the first part.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 15, 2014Publication date: July 16, 2015Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventor: John Kevin Clemons

Patent number: 7934758Abstract: A connecting and adapting system for interconnecting a pair of jaws of a grapple assembly and for adapting the grapple assembly for connecting to a plurality of linkages. The system includes bearings, where the bearings have a flange, an elongated section, and a bore. The flange of the bearings abuts a portion of one of the jaws, the elongated section of the bearings interconnects the jaws, and the bore of the bearing receives a pin to provide a connecting location. A portion of the bearing, being positioned opposite the flange, receives a collar that abuts a portion of one of the jaws.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2007Date of Patent: May 3, 2011Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: John Stamey, John Kevin Clemons
