Publication number: 20220106492Abstract: A low-tack aqueous binder composition is disclosed that includes at least 30.0% by weight of a polymeric crosslinking agent comprising at least two carboxylic acid groups, based on the total solids content of the binder composition; 10.0% to 50.0% by weight of a polyol having at least two hydroxyl groups, based on the total solids content of the binder composition; wherein the polyol comprises a sugar alcohol, an alkanolamine, pentaerythritol, or mixtures thereof; 1.5% to 15.0% by weight of an additive blend comprising one or more process additives, based on the total solids content of the binder composition; and 0 to 3.0% by weight of a silane coupling agent, based on the total solids content of the binder composition. The aqueous binder composition has an uncured pH between 4.0 and 7.0 and an uncured a peak tack force of no greater than 80 grams at 60% binder solids.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2021Publication date: April 7, 2022Inventors: Kevin Click, Liang Chen, Gert Mueller, Charlotte Pettersson, Xiujuan Zhang

Publication number: 20210214944Abstract: Asphalt-based roofing materials, such as shingles, are disclosed that include a layer of parting material. The layer of parting material is applied to at least a part of the top, bottom, or both the top and the bottom of the shingle. When the shingle includes the parting material on the bottom, the layer of parting material replaces all or a portion of a backdust layer. When the shingle includes the layer of parting material on the top, the layer of parting material replaces a portion of granules on the shingle. The layer of parting material can be applied to the shingle in patterns and configurations that permit an adhesive to be applied to the shingle and function as intended.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2019Publication date: July 15, 2021Inventors: Jonathan M. Verhoff, Scott W. Schweiger, Kevin A. Click, Laurand H. Lewandowski, Benjamin R. Hoffman

Publication number: 20200248456Abstract: A shingle which includes a substrate, granules deposited on the substrate, a first material strip applied to the top of the substrate, a second material strip applied to the bottom of the substrate, and an adhesive applied to the second material strip. The second material strip is positioned along an edge of the substrate such that when a shingle is applied to a roof overlaying an existing shingle, the adhesive adheres the second material strip of the overlaying shingle to the first material strip of the existing shingle. The second material strip is applied to the bottom of the substrate prior particles being applied to the bottom surface of the substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 23, 2020Publication date: August 6, 2020Inventors: Kevin A.
