  • Publication number: 20060259855
Abstract: A system and method for organizing medical images as a single page representation are disclosed. The system comprises a computer-based platform hosting a patient management software application. The computer-based platform is used for displaying at least two digital medical images in at least one application window of the patient management software application. Each of the digital medical images is identified as being of a particular type of medical image. The computer-based platform is further used for displaying at least two page representation templates in at least one other application window of the patient management software application. Each of the page representation templates includes pre-defined, blank image holder areas which are each defined as corresponding to a particular type of medical image. The computer-based platform is also used for selecting one of the page representation templates based on at least one of the type and number of the displayed medical images.

  • Publication number: 20060259513
Abstract: A system and method for submitting image requests to a DICOM server are disclosed. The system comprises at least one data manager operationally interfacing between a plurality of computer-based platforms (e.g., PC's, workstations, imaging machines) and the DICOM server. Each of the plurality of computer-based platforms is capable of generating and transmitting image requests. The DICOM server is capable of receiving and responding to image requests. The data manager administers a first security policy between the plurality of computer-based platforms and the DICOM server to determine which computer-based platforms are authorized to access images from or submit images to the DICOM server.

  • Publication number: 20060259463
Abstract: A system and method for automatically generating a query to a DICOM server are disclosed. The system comprises patient identification information encoded in a tangible medium. The system further comprises a reading device to read the encoded patient identification information from the tangible medium. The system also includes a computer-based platform hosting a medical software application. The computer-based platform operationally interfaces to the reading device to receive the read patient identification information from the reading device and to automatically generate a DICOM query, using the medical software application, such that the DICOM query includes at least a portion of the patient identification information. The system further comprises at least one DICOM server operationally interfacing to the computer-based platform to receive the DICOM query from the computer-based platform.

  • Publication number: 20060239521
Abstract: A system and methods for capturing, displaying, and viewing representations of progressions of anatomical structures and associated digital images is disclosed. A processor-based system is used to generate and store digital images of anatomical structures such as teeth of a dental patient. Any one digital image is stored as an image shot within a progression of image shots. The progression of image shots may correspond to a particular region of interest or study being performed by a dental practitioner. The progression of image shots is depicted to the practitioner as a tooth progression chart including pictorial representations of the anatomical structures, in correct anatomical relation to each other, and indicia defining an ordered progression such that the practitioner is able to clearly identify which anatomical structure is associated with a particular image shot.

  • Publication number: 20060206457
Abstract: A system and method for generating text data from graphical image information of a first data form and passing the generated text data to another data form is disclosed. The system comprises a computer-based platform configured to obtain search criteria data from a current data form of interest and search an operating system of the computer-based platform for at least one other data form having first data that match the search criteria data to identify any matching data forms. The computer-based platform is further configured to perform an image capture operation on at least one predefined area of any matching data forms to form at least one captured image. An optical character reading operation is performed on the at least one captured image to generate at least one instance of second data and the at least one instance of second data is passed to the current data form of interest.

  • Patent number: 5900883
Abstract: A method for storing and retrieving image data across multiple storage media. The method of the present invention allows a large image file to be stored to one or more diskettes, magnetic tapes, fixed disk drives, CD-ROM's, a combination of the foregoing, or any other suitable storage media, without regard to the size of the image data file. When an image file has been stored in accordance with the storage method of the present invention, the file may be easily retrieved from the various storage locations. The image data may be stored such that upon the retrieval thereof, the various storage media utilized may be presented in any order without corruption of the image data. The image data are preferably compressed using any of a wide variety of compression algorithms, and the image may be represented in color, grey tones, or black and white. Also, various error checking algorithms may be utilized in conjunction with the present invention to ensure that all of the data are properly stored and/or retrieved.
