  • Publication number: 20070025343
Abstract: An arrangement which includes a telephone and an interface unit, which interfaces the telephone to both a standard switched telephone communications network and an Internet communications network, is disclosed. The interface unit includes an input coupled to the telephone to receive audio information and two output ports configured to be respectively coupled to the standard switched telephone communications network and the Internet communications network. A processing unit couples the audio information received from the telephone to the first output port when the telephonic communication is to be performed using the standard switched telephone communications network. Alternatively, the processing unit processes the audio information received from the telephone in accordance with standard Internet transfer protocols and couples the processed audio information to the second output port when the telephonic communication is to be performed using the Internet communications network and the standard protocols.

  • Patent number: 6282272
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and interface for browsing the internet using a telephone circuit having keys for generating DTMF codes. The interface includes a memory and a processor and is coupled to the telephone circuit and display. The interface receives a first DTMF code requesting access to the internet and, in response to the first DTMF code, loads a Web browser in its memory. The interface then receives a second DTMF code from the telephone circuit and converts the second DTMF code into a Web browser command using an interpretation protocol. The Web browser command is then executed using the interface, thereby enabling a user to access the internet via manual operation of the keys of the telephone is circuit.

  • Patent number: 6243129
Abstract: A videoconferencing arrangement that selectively creates a composite arrangement of videoconferencing data along with video data from a supplemental video source. In one embodiment, a first analog-to-digital converter provides digital videoconferencing data from a camera source, and a second analog-to-digital converter is arranged to provide digital video data from a supplemental analog video signal source, such as a broadcast television signal. Digital video signals from a remote videoconferencing arrangement are decompressed and provided as input, along with the video data from the camera and supplemental video data, to a video processor. Responsive to selection signals, the video processor scales selected video data and overlays the scaled video data on selected other video data. For example, a live television broadcast can be overlaid with remote videoconferencing data.

  • Patent number: 6239847
Abstract: A video data scaling arrangement as implemented with both vertical and horizontal scaling provided using the same programmable filter. The scaling is provided as rows of video data are received from a video source. According to one example embodiment using an incoming video data stream, video data is received sequentially according to a schedule of portions characterized by one of the dimensions of the sequence and, for each sequence of elements of the video data stream within a first video field of at least a two-field video frame, the sequence of elements of the video data stream is received in a first dimension, and the sequence of elements of the video data stream is filtered in the first dimension using a programmable scaling filter to provide a first set of scaled data having a first scaled dimension and having at least a second dimension.

  • Patent number: 5926208
Abstract: A video and audio compression and decompression system includes a reconfigurable compact camera communicating with a computer system to permit the camera to execute one of several types of compression modules. The camera includes first and second types of memory. The first type of memory is made of smaller ROM-type memory cells and is used for storing computer-executable video-data-compression subprograms. The second type of memory is made of larger RAM-type memory cells and stores the compression program. A download circuit on the camera is configured to receive transmitted data representing the data compression program and to store the transmitted data in the second memory. A selection is made of the stored subprograms corresponding to the data representing the compression program. An image reader including a data generation circuit captures the external image and generates data representing the image.
