  • Patent number: 6293102
Abstract: An air brake compressor supply fitting for an internal combustion engine having a turbocharger and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system is located downstream of the turbocharger and upstream of where the exhaust gas is introduced into the intake air of the engine. The supply fitting can be integrated into an outlet manifold of a charge air cooler (CAC associated with the turbocharger or into an EGR mixer for mixing exhaust gas with the intake air of the engine at a location in the EGR mixer upstream from the location where the exhaust gas is introduced into the intake air of the engine.

  • Patent number: 5558069
Abstract: An apparatus and method for cooling or heating fluids, such as fuel in a fuel system of an automotive vehicle. Compressed gas is delivered to a vortex tube or air amplifier 14 so that the gas rapidly expands and cools, thereby cooling a first end 16 of the vortex tube 14 in relation to a warmer second end thereof 18. A first fuel inlet port 20 of a first heat exchanger 16 lies proximate the first end 16 so that fuel flowing into the inlet port 20 is cooled by thermal contact with the first end 16 of the vortex tube 14. A cooled fuel outlet port 22 in the heat exchanger 16 lies proximate the first end 16 so that cooled fuel may leave the heat exchanger 16 for delivery to an engine. A valve with an upstream gate 26 and two downstream gates 28,30 is located so that fuel is selectively delivered to the first fuel inlet port 20 through the upstream gate 26 and one of the two downstream gates 28,30 if cooling of the fuel is desired.

  • Patent number: 5366006
Abstract: A heat exchanger including a joint (26) for joining the end (28) of a coolant tube (12) to a header (14). The header (14) includes an aperture (22) extending therethrough with a ferrule (24) circumferentially disposed thereabout. At least one tab (32) extends upward from the ferrule (24) for providing attachment to the end (28) of the coolant tube (12).

  • Patent number: 4940086
Abstract: So-called suck-in (FIG. 6) and banana-ing (FIG. 7) in a plastic tank for a vehicular radiator having elongated side walls 102, 104 connected by short end walls 106, 108 and having an opening 112 surrounded by a peripheral flange 114 which in turn includes a planar sealing surface 124 is eliminated by the provision of a substantially continuous, peripheral bead 140 about the tank generally parallel to the flange 114 and in close adjacency thereto.

  • Patent number: 4773474
Abstract: A snap on fillerneck for a tank 52, 76 on a heat exchanger includes a hollow body 10 having an interior sealing surface 20 intermediate its ends 12, 14 which is adapted to be engaged by a seal 22 on a pressure cap 24 and which faces axially toward one end 12 of the body 10. An exterior flange 28 is located on the end 12 of the body 10 and has a pressure cap retaining surfaces 30, 32 for retaining the pressure cap 24 thereon. Resilient fingers 36 extend from the other end 14 of the body 10 and have integral, generally radially movable retaining surfaces 38 for retaining abutment with an end 58, 58' in a mounting element 50, 50'. The body 10 includes an exterior sealing surface 44 intermediate the ends 12, 14 thereof for cooperation with a seal 46 to seal the interface of the body 10 and the mounting elements 50, 50'.

  • Patent number: 4531578
Abstract: A connection for securing a tank to a header plate in a heat exchanger. A metal header plate is provided with a peripheral groove having a bottom wall and an upstanding side wall. A compressible gasket is received in the groove in a plastic tank as a flange disposed in the groove to compress the gasket. A plurality of tabs are deformed from the side wall to overlie a side of the flange. The tabs are generally egg-shaped or spherical and have free edges engaging the flange to provide excellent resistance to deformation.
