  • Patent number: 4727101
Abstract: A carbonate polymer composition comprising a carbonate polymer such as a bisphenol-A homopolycarbonate which carbonate polymer contains an amount of a salt represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein Ar is an aromatic group, R is a monovalent organic moiety, or Ar and R collectively are a divalent aromatic moiety M is a cation, and n is a number corresponding to the valence of M and an amount of a free aromatic sulfimide, which carbonate polymer composition resists combustion upon exposure to an ignition source, exhibits good optical properties, and exhibits molecular weight stability. Optionally, a halogenated organic compound may be added to the composition.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4722955
Abstract: Carbonate polymer compositions exhibit good thermal stability and good non-yellowing characteristics. Compositions comprise a carbonate polymer (e.g., a homopolycarbonate of bisphenol A), a heat stabilizing phosphorous compound (e.g., an organo-phosphite or an organo-phosphonite), an epoxy compound containing internal acyclic ether linkages (e.g., a diglycidyl ether of a polypropylene glycol), and optionally a hindered phenol. Such compositions retain desirable properties upon exposure to hot and humid conditions.

  • Patent number: 4626563
Abstract: Flame retardant carbonate polymers containing an aromatic sulfimide, a monomeric or polymeric halogenated organic compound, a metal sulfate having a pka from 1 to 5 and a fibril forming polytetrafluoroethylene as additives in effective amounts give carbonate polymers that are not only flame retardant but are melt stable i.e. show little loss in molecular weight during processing or melt shearing.

  • Patent number: 4587310
Abstract: Ignition resistant carbonate polymers are made by incorporating a metal salt complex of polyether polyols into the polymer. The carbonate polymers are transparent with low haze and still have high ignition resistance. The ignition resistance can be improved by the addition aromatic compound.

  • Patent number: 4444978
Abstract: Carbonate polymers having increased thermal stability are prepared by incorporating into the polymer chain an oligomer having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is the divalent residue of a dihydric phenol or a dihydric polynuclear phenol,R.sub.1 is an alkyl, aralkyl or alkaryl group having 1 to 25 carbons, and n is a number having an average value of 1-200.

  • Patent number: 4407995
Abstract: Polycarbonates are heat stabilized by the incorporation of a carbonate compound having a boiling point greater than about 250.degree. C. and an organophosphorous compound such as a phosphonite or a phosphite. The amount of the additive compound used in each instance is from 100 to 10,000 parts per million.

  • Patent number: 4378454
Abstract: Polycarbonates are prepared in homogeneous solutions from dihydric phenols and phosgene wherein the stoichiometric end point for the addition of phosgene is accurately controlled by using 4-(p-nitrobenzyl) pyridine as a colorometric indicator for the end point in a series of samples of the reaction solution.
