  • Publication number: 20170283020
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically controlling partial pressure of oxygen in the breathing loop of a rebreather diving system. A diver may adjustably select a control parameter to maintain partial pressure of oxygen at a setpoint that varies with ambient pressure and is within a range between a maximum safe partial pressure of oxygen at depth and a minimum safe partial pressure of oxygen for the purpose of biasing the performance of the rebreather either towards minimizing gas venting from the rebreather breathing loop or minimizing decompression time. A method and apparatus for managing and monitoring the use of dive resources in comparison with a target dive time specified by the diver, calculating and indicating remaining dive time based on dive resource values and calculating and indicating dive resource values required to meet preselected dive resource end values and dive requirements.

  • Publication number: 20080276942
Abstract: A breathing apparatus having a source of oxygen and a mouthpiece, which includes an inlet connected through a first one-way valve to receive inhaled gas, and an outlet having a second one-way valve to expel exhaled gas from a user. A scrubber canister is coupled to the mouthpiece and receives the output of the mouthpiece through the second one-way valve. The scrubber canister removes at least a portion of carbon dioxide from the exhaled gas from the user, and outputs carbon dioxide depleted gas. The scrubber canister has an inner canister and an outer canister and a plurality of vanes disposed between the inner canister and the outer canister. The vanes increase the dwell time of gas in the canister, thereby increasing the amount of carbon dioxide removed from the gas. Such construction can be implemented in rebreathers having radial, axial or cross-flow designs.
