Publication number: 20170300376Abstract: A method to processes issue data in a system is provided. A rules engine monitors a computer network for a violation of a parameter defined by rules in a database and automatically detects the violation. In response, the rules engine generates an issue report indicating the violation. An issue report is received from a human user indicating a potential violation in the computer network. The issue reports are parsed. Based on data parsed from the issue reports, a determination that a common issue is being reported by both the rules engine and the human user is made. In response, the issue report from the rules engine is reconciled with the issue report from the human user resulting in a single issue entry in an issue queue, whereby the reconciling including incrementing a count for each instance of the common issue being reported.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2017Publication date: October 19, 2017Inventors: Kevin H. Embree, Ellen Silver

Patent number: 9699044Abstract: A computer-implemented method to processes issue data in a system. A plurality of issue reports are received from respective reporting entities, each issue report being in respect of a system issue which requires a response activity. The issue reports are parsed to obtain priority criterion data relating to at least one priority criterion. The priority criterion is unrelated to the dates and/or times of the issue reports and may include visibility data, severity data, exposure data, and performance data relating to past performance of a reporting entity or a reported entity. The reported issues are then prioritized for order of response based at least partially on the associated criterion data.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2016Date of Patent: July 4, 2017Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventors: Kevin H Embree, Ellen Silver

Patent number: 9354959Abstract: A computer-implemented method to processes issue data in a system is provided. A network is monitored for a violation of a parameter defined by rules. The violation is reported in an issue report categorized by a predefined issue type. Issue description and location identifying information where an issue of the issue report occurs are identified. A predefined response activity for responding to the issue is determined. An action based on the predefined response activity is triggered. The issue and the response activity is logged.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2013Date of Patent: May 31, 2016Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventors: Kevin H Embree, Ellen Silver

Patent number: 8260681Abstract: A system to detect outlying behavior in a network-based marketplace automatically collects attribute information for a first plurality of sellers that includes a first seller, and stores the attribute information in a storage device. The system computes peer information associated with a second plurality of sellers using a computer system, wherein the first plurality of sellers includes the second plurality of sellers, and wherein the peer information is automatically computed from the attribute information for the second plurality of sellers. The system compares the peer information associated with the second plurality of sellers with attribute information for the first seller for the purpose of automatically detecting outlying behavior by the first seller.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2010Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventor: Kevin H. Patent number: 7930284Abstract: A method and system to protect users against potentially fraudulent activities associated with spoof web sites are described. According to one aspect of the present invention, the URL of a document downloaded via a web browser client is compared to the URLs in a list of URLs for known spoof sites. If the URL for the downloaded document is found in the list of URLs for known spoof sites, a security indicator is displayed to the user to indicate to the user that the downloaded document is associated with a known spoof site. According to another aspect of the invention, a security server maintains a master black list and periodically communicates updates of the master black list to the local list of a client security application.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2010Date of Patent: April 19, 2011Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventors: Scott Leahy, Jeffrey Taylor, Chris Lalonde, Ajay Agrawal, Kevin H Embree, Jeffrey L. Patent number: 7558834Abstract: A computer-implemented method processes issue data pertaining to a system. Issue data is received from a reporting entity, the issue data identifying an issue pertaining to the system and the reporting entity. A database is accessed to retrieve performance data regarding the reporting entity. The performance data is indicative of a past performance of the reporting entity in reporting issues pertaining to the system. A response activity, responsive to the issue, is automatically prioritized utilizing the performance data regarding the reporting entity.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2003Date of Patent: July 7, 2009Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventors: Kevin H.
