Patent number: 7353152Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a mathematical and computer model of diabetes related disorders (e.g., human type 2 diabetes) within the framework of multiple macronutrient metabolism. The model includes a representation of complex physiological control mechanisms directing, for example, fat metabolism, protein metabolism and/or carbohydrate metabolism. In one embodiment, for example, the model can account for the interconversion between macronutrients, as well as their digestion, absorption, storage, mobilization, and adaptive utilization, as well as the endocrine control of these processes. In this embodiment, the model can simulate, for example, a heterogeneous group of diabetes related disorders, from insulin resistant to severe diabetic, and can predict the likely effects of therapeutic interventions.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2002Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Assignee: Entelos, Inc.Inventors: Paul Brazhnik, Kevin Hall, Dave Polidori, Scott Siler, Jeff Trimmer

Patent number: 7292449Abstract: A digital apparatus having a cable comprising a plurality of high-speed and low-speed signal carrying conductors, the conductors carrying the low-speed signals are bypassed to a signal ground with selected values of capacitance so as to become virtual signal ground return conductors for the high-speed signal conductors. The selected values of capacitance have a lower impedance then the characteristic impedance of the conductors in the cable. The cable may be a multi conductor cable, a ribbon cable, a flex cable, a twisted pair cable, etc. In a similar fashion, signal conductors on a printed circuit board, not having a separate ground plane layer, may create virtual signal ground returns from the low-speed signal carrying conductors that are proximate to the high-speed signal carrying conductors for reduction of radiated electromagnetic radio frequency interference.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2004Date of Patent: November 6, 2007Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: Paul Kevin Hall, Keith Bryan Hardin, Brandon Robert Shields

Publication number: 20060278737Abstract: A marking sphere dispensing apparatus for dispensing fluid-assisted marking spheres into pavement marking materials applied to a surface has a frame defining a marking sphere receptacle having a valve seat defining an opening between the marking sphere receptacle and an expulsion duct. A plunger is disposed coaxially to the longitudinal axis of the dispensing apparatus and defines an internal fluid passage for providing pressurized fluid. The plunger is moveable in a longitudinal direction within the marking sphere dispensing frame between a first position at which a plunger head of the plunger is seated against the valve seat to close the opening, and a second position at which the plunger head is axially offset from the valve seat to define a marking sphere inlet gap across the opening. A method for apply marking spheres uses the marking sphere dispensing apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 9, 2005Publication date: December 14, 2006Inventors: Kevin Hall, Christopher Davies, Thomas Still, Keith Wolos, Kenneth Grimbilas

Publication number: 20060211019Abstract: Probe sets and methods of using probes and probe sets for selectively detecting high grade dysplasia and esophageal adenocarcinoma or low grade dysplasia from biologic samples are described. Methods of the invention include contacting a biological sample obtained from a subject with a set of chromosomal probes to selectively detect an esophageal carcinoma or precursor lesion in the sample, if any, under conditions for specifically hybridizing the probes to their nucleic targets present in the sample. The presence or absence of high grade dysplasia and esophageal adenocarcinoma or low grade dysplasia is thereafter specifically determined from the hybridization pattern detected for the set of chromosomal probes to the biological sample.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2006Publication date: September 21, 2006Inventors: Kevin Halling, Larry Morrison, Shannon Brankley

Publication number: 20050197785Abstract: Apparatus and methods for assessing metabolic substrate utilization are described. In one embodiment, a processor-readable medium includes code to receive data indicative of a plasma glucose concentration, a plasma free fatty acid concentration, and a respiratory quotient of a subject. The processor-readable medium also includes code to calculate, based on the data, respective values of a set of metabolic parameters. The set of metabolic parameters includes a first metabolic parameter and a second metabolic parameter. The value of the first metabolic parameter is indicative of whether the subject has a predisposition towards oxidation of a first type of metabolic substrate or a second type of metabolic substrate, and the value of the second metabolic parameter is indicative of the subject's responsiveness to a change in availability of the first type of metabolic substrate or the second type of metabolic substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2004Publication date: September 8, 2005Inventors: David Polidori, Kevin Hall

Publication number: 20040213324Abstract: For EMI reduction the current modulation profile is preferably used for frequencies over 1 GHz while the frequency deviation is increased at least to ±2.5 MHz and the modulation frequency is increased to at least 150 kHz, preferably about 260 kHz. In an alternative embodiment, the modification frequency is 1 MHz or greater so that a segmented spectrum is achieved. For clocks having basic frequency below 1 GHz, but having strong harmonics higher than 1 GHz, modulation of the foregoing is combined with the slower modulation currently used. EMI reduction is realized both at the lower and the higher harmonics.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2003Publication date: October 28, 2004Inventors: Paul Kevin Hall, Keith Bryan Hardin, Robert Allan Menke, Robert Aaron Oglesbee

Patent number: 6322157Abstract: A wheel end is provided where the spindle is an integral cast and machined trumpet-shaped arm made from high strength ductile iron, and a seal retainer is provided to locate and protect the inner wheel bearing and wheel end from debris. The trumpet-shaped arm is formed with a long parabolic radius machined with a reasonable surface finish to reduce or significantly eliminate stress concentrations. The mating cast iron seal retainer is employed to provide proper location for the inner wheel bearing and to transfer axial loads of the bearing to the spindle shoulder. In addition, the seal retainer retains the inner half of the seal face and provides a sealing surface to prevent escape of the axle wheel end oil. In this design, the outside diameter of the seal retainer is made to fit inside the wheel hub bore where it is protected from rocks, stumps, other debris, etc.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2000Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Assignee: Dana CorporationInventors: Greg DeWald, Tony Dalton, Kevin Hall
