  • Patent number: 6939486
Abstract: Method and apparatus for molding an IOL comprising first and second mold halves each having an optic forming surface and haptic forming surfaces which together define a mold cavity in the shape of the IOL to be molded therein when the mold halves are assembled together. An injection port is formed and connects to one of said haptic forming surfaces or the optic forming surface wherethrough a polymerizable material is injected into the mold cavity. A venting port is formed and connects to another haptic wherethrough air escapes from the mold cavity as the polymerizable material is injected through the injection port.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 25, 2002
Date of Patent: September 6, 2005
    Assignee: Bausch & Lomb Incorporated
Inventors: Kevin J. DeRyke, Michael H. Dobner, Larry C. Hovey, Michael J. Moorehead

  • Patent number: 6244708
Abstract: A method for obtaining contact lenses having optimized visual acuity involves providing the anterior surface or the posterior surface of the contact lens with a conic section having a shape factor value within the range of about 0.3 to 2.0, the shape factor value being selected so as to adjust spherical aberration in the central optical zone to a value within the range of about −0.2 diopter to about −0.6 diopter and to a value that provides optimal visual acuity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 28, 1998
Date of Patent: June 12, 2001
    Assignee: Bausch & Lomb Incorporated
Inventors: Judith E. Chapman, Ian G. Cox, Graham W. Biddle, Timothy L. Comstock, Kevin J. DeRyke
