Patent number: 12188211Abstract: A pit defining an opening and having a footing. Cutouts are located in the footing and are created in mold to avoid secondary cutting operations. The wall of the pit above the footing is narrower than the footing and includes ribs extending from the wall for added compressive resistance. The ribs may vary in size both in length and extension into the center of the pit.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2020Date of Patent: January 7, 2025Assignee: BINGHAM & TAYLOR CORP.Inventor: Kevin J. Patent number: 11401681Abstract: A pit and an extension, each having flanges extending perpendicular to an axis of the pit and extension. The pit includes holes extending outwardly in the wall of the pit, preferably these holes are located at one end of the pit. Surfaces of the flanges are configured to mate together and clips secure the flanges together to inhibit movement apart of the pit and extension along the axis. In certain embodiments, the extension includes support ribs which may be both interior and exterior and the extension narrows from its flange towards an opposite end thereof.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2019Date of Patent: August 2, 2022Assignee: Bingham & Taylor Corp.Inventors: Kevin J. Publication number: 20080226892Abstract: Polymer molding processes, such as injection-molding processes, include use of a viscosity-reducing supercritical fluid additive resulting in less breakage of reinforcing fibers upon introduction into the mold.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 20, 2008Publication date: September 18, 2008Applicant: Trexel, Inc.Inventors: Levi A. Publication number: 20080187741Abstract: The invention provides in-mold decorated articles and methods to form the articles. The in-mold decorated articles include a polymeric portion having a substrate material adhered to a surface of the polymeric portion. The substrate material may be, for example, a film or a fabric. In some embodiments, the polymeric portion may be a foam and, particularly, a microcellular polymeric material. The articles are formed by injecting a mixture of blowing agent and polymeric material into a mold cavity in which the substrate material is disposed, so that the substrate material is forced against a wall of the mold cavity. The blowing agent, which in certain preferred cases is a supercritical fluid, decreases the viscosity of the polymeric material and, therefore, enables reductions in injection pressures and temperatures.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2008Publication date: August 7, 2008Applicant: Trexel, Inc.Inventors: Joseph P. Vadala, Levi A. Kishbaugh, Kevin J. Levesque, David E. Pierick

Patent number: 6926507Abstract: The invention provides a blowing agent delivery system for introducing a blowing agent into a polymeric foam processing system. The delivery system is designed to discontinuously introduce blowing agent from a continuous source into polymeric material within an extruder. The system, thus, may improve control over blowing agent delivery in discontinuous polymer processing systems such as injection molding or blow molding. In some embodiments, the blowing agent delivery system selectively directs blowing agent flow from the source to the extruder barrel, or through a bypassing passageway. In this manner, blowing agent may be continuously supplied by the source but discontinuously injected into the extruder barrel. During use, the delivery system may cause blowing agent to flow through the bypassing passageway, for example, when the screw stops plasticating polymeric material.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2001Date of Patent: August 9, 2005Assignee: Trexel, Inc.Inventors: Juan C. Cardona, Kevin J. Levesque, Theodore A. Burnham, Alan F. Matthieu, Roland Y. Kim

Publication number: 20040262813Abstract: Systems and methods for injection molding polymeric materials are provided. The systems and methods use a supercritical fluid additive. In some cases, the use of supercritical fluid additive enables formation of molded articles with low clamping forces and/or low injection pressures. Low clamping forces and/or low injection pressures may reduce the cost of a system designed to form a particular molded article. In some embodiments, the systems may include a control system that controls the operation of one or more components of the system (e.g., the extruder or the supercritical fluid additive introduction system). The systems and methods are suitable for forming polymeric foam articles including microcellular material articles.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2003Publication date: December 30, 2004Applicant: Trexel, IncorporatedInventors: David E. Pierick, Levi A. Kishbaugh, Jingyi Xu, Juan C. Cardona, Himanshu R. Sheth, Kevin J. Levesque, Jeffrey L. Ng, Roland Y. Kim

Publication number: 20020147244Abstract: Molding, including injection molding, of crystalline or semicrystalline polymeric material is described. Microcellular polymeric material is preferred. The invention involves use of a viscosity-reducing additive in molding that results in relatively better crystallinity at relatively lower mold temperatures, and lower aging time.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2001Publication date: October 10, 2002Inventors: Levi A. Kishbaugh, Roland Y. Kim, Kevin J. Levesque

Patent number: 5392652Abstract: Presented is a method and apparatus for inspection through use of a variable angle ultrasonic transducer of metallic members such as pipes, conduits, plates and other formed metallic members normally having a surface regularity adhering to a predetermined standard of normalcy. Inspection proceeds in such a manner that irregularities in the surface of the member under test that lie outside the standard of normalcy are sensed, the degree of irregularity determined and converted into an electrical signal that is applied to continually variably control the angular relationship of the ultrasonic transducer with the surface of the metallic member being inspected whereby abnormalities within the metallic member may be reliably and accurately detected, displayed and recorded.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1992Date of Patent: February 28, 1995Assignee: Lambert, MacGill, Thomas, Inc.Inventors: Kevin J.
