  • Publication number: 20180149826
Abstract: Described are examples of a computing device that includes a camera with a lens configured to capture a real world scene for storing as a digital image. The computing device also includes at least one processor configured to determine a temperature related to the lens of the camera, apply, based on the temperature, an offset to at least one of a lens position or range of lens positions defined for the lens, and perform a focus of the lens based on at least one of the lens position or range of lens positions.

  • Patent number: 7502057
Abstract: Reducing or eliminated color-dependent vignetting in a digital camera includes: providing a raw array of data corresponding to an image of a scene for each color that the camera can image; and adjusting the raw arrays such that the array for each color exhibits substantially the same amount of vignetting.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 20, 2002
Date of Patent: March 10, 2009
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Christopher A Whitman, Kevin J Matherson, Robert E Sobol, David K Campbell
  • Patent number: 7266248
Abstract: A method and device for generating image data are disclosed herein. One embodiment of the method comprises focusing an image of an object onto a two-dimensional photosensor array, wherein an optical element is located between the object and the two-dimensional photosensor array. The optical element is moved, wherein the moving causes the image focused on the two-dimensional photosensor array to move parallel to the two-dimensional photosensor array. Data representative of the image is generated by the two-dimensional photosensor array while the optical element is moving.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 8, 2003
Date of Patent: September 4, 2007
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Kevin J. Matherson, Andrew C. Goris
  • Patent number: 7233352
Abstract: Reducing or eliminated color-dependent vignetting in a digital camera includes: providing, for each color that said camera can image, a raw array of data corresponding to a desired scene; and changing the raw arrays such that the array for each color exhibits substantially the same amount of vignetting so as to reduce color-dependent vignetting in a composite image based upon each of the changed arrays.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 20, 2002
Date of Patent: June 19, 2007
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Kevin J Matherson, Robert E Sobol, Christopher A Whitman, David Kay Campbell
  • Patent number: 7221793
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for providing spatially-varied demosaicing. In one embodiment, a system and method pertain to collecting color information sensed by image sensor pixels, and estimating color information as to a pixel under consideration that is not collected by the pixel by weighting color information collected by adjacent pixels that are positioned in a direction in which color is shifted due to lateral chromatic aberration.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 27, 2003
Date of Patent: May 22, 2007
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Donald J. Stavely, Christopher A. Whitman, Robert E. Sobol, Kevin J. Matherson
  • Patent number: 7151560
Abstract: Producing calibration data (to remove vignetting, e.g., color-dependent vignetting) for a digital camera includes: arranging, in front of the camera, a white reference surface that is to be imaged; capturing, via the camera, a characteristic array of data corresponding to an image of the reference surface for each color that the camera can image; and manipulating each characteristic array to reduce a total amount of data representing the reference image.

Date of Patent: December 19, 2006
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Kevin J Matherson, Christopher A Whitman, Jason E Yost
  • Publication number: 20040246360
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for displaying preview images to a camera user. In one embodiment, a system and method pertain to displaying liveview images in a camera display when an image is being composed, and further displaying at least one preview image in the camera display, the at least one preview image providing an indication of image focus or detail.

  • Publication number: 20040227839
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for determining focus of an image. In one embodiment, a system and a method pertains to restricting light provided by a central portion of a camera lens so that light is primarily collected from a periphery of the lens, and evaluating the focus of the image using the light from the periphery of the lens.
