  • Patent number: 8701785
Abstract: Shrinkable sleeve stabilizers formed around the outer surface of a pipe to enhance position stability of the pipe when operably positioned within a well bore and related methods, are provided. The shrinkable sleeve stabilizer according to an embodiment of the invention includes a plurality of elongate stabilizer blades shaped and configured to connect around an outer diameter of the pipe, and a shrinkable sleeve sized to wrap around an outer surface of the each of the plurality of stabilizer blades when connected to the outer diameter of the pipe to immobilize each of the plurality of stabilizer blades when activated.

  • Publication number: 20130153244
Abstract: Present embodiments are directed to a device for a top drive drilling system. The device includes a movable sleeve configured to be disposed around at least a portion of a sub. The movable sleeve is configured to be selectively disposed around a tubular by sliding axially along the sub. The device also includes a plurality of engagement features extending inwardly from an inner circumference of the movable sleeve. When the movable sleeve is disposed around the tubular, the plurality of engagement features are configured to engage the tubular when the movable sleeve is rotated in a first direction and to not engage the tubular when the movable sleeve is rotated in a second direction.

  • Publication number: 20120181044
Abstract: A method of drilling a well and installing a liner includes assembling concentric inner and outer strings of tubulars. A drill bit is located at the lower end of the inner string and a liner with a liner hanger makes up part of the outer string. The inner and outer strings may be rotated in unison to drill the well. A valve is located upstream of a liner hanger control tool used to release and set the liner hanger in the drill string. The valve comprises a ported sleeve that slides relative to a ported housing to meter flow from the interior of the drill string to the annular space. The redirected flow maintains a minimum flow rate in the annular space to prevent cuttings from settling on the control tool. A portion of the valve can further be used with a dart to manipulate downstream equipment.

  • Publication number: 20120175133
Abstract: A dampered drop plug drops down a bore of a drill string. The dampered drop plug includes a retainer configured to land on an upward facing shoulder of a tubular sleeve, and a plug releasably coupled to the retainer. The plug couples to the retainer while at a first pressure in the bore and decouples from the retainer at a second pressure in the bore. The dampered drop plug lands on the upward facing shoulder of a tubular sleeve and actuates a first function. The plug then releases from the retainer, and passes fluid through the retainer at a controlled flowrate. The plug then lands on a ball seat and actuates a second function.
