Abstract: A shaving cartridge with a housing having a guard and a cap that define a shaving plane tangential thereto. The housing has a first blade with a blade edge positioned between the guard and the cap. A second blade has a blade edge positioned between the cap and the blade edge of the first blade. The first blade defines a plurality of rinse-through openings positioned between the blade edge of the first blade and the blade edge of the second blade.

Abstract: A shaving cartridge with a housing having a guard and a cap that define a shaving plane tangential thereto. The housing has first blade with a base portion mounted to the housing and a bent portion slanted toward the shaving plane. The base portion is within 25 degrees of being parallel to the shaving plane and the bent portion has an angle relative to the base portion of about 5 degrees to about 25 degrees.

Abstract: A razor cartridge is provided having a first lateral end portion, a second lateral end portion, a front portion and a rear portion, wherein the rear portion has a back end wall. At least one blade is mounted to the housing, wherein the blade has a length extending from the first lateral end portion to the second lateral end portion. A guard is positioned at the front of the housing, and extends from the first lateral end portion to the second lateral end portion. A cap is positioned at the rear portion of the housing and has a length extending from the first lateral end portion to the second lateral end portion. The cap has a plurality of ribs generally transverse to the blade which define a plurality of channels that extend from the rear portion of the housing to at least along a portion of the rear wall.

Abstract: A wet shaving razor comprising a cartridge having a length wherein the cartridge comprises an upper frame comprising 1) a blade frame, 2) a shaving blade joined to the blade frame where the blade extends lengthwise along the cartridge, 3) an upper face that surrounds the blade, and 4) one or more serially arranged rear spring elements, each element having a proximate and distal end such that said proximate end is joined adjacent a top edge of the upper face and wherein said distal end is joined to a catch plate; a sub-frame upon which said upper frame is resiliently mounted at its bottom edge near a front edge of said sub-frame wherein said sub-frame further comprises front spring elements; and a catch plate that causes the rear spring elements to foldably engage with a rear edge of said sub-frame to provide removably secured rear spring elements; and wherein the front spring elements and rear spring elements oppose local deformation of the cartridge under shaving forces encountered during shaving.

Abstract: A shaving razor with a handle and a housing mounted to the handle. The housing has a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and at least one blade having a cutting edge. The blade is mounted to the housing with a blade support structure. A guard is at the distal end portion of the housing and has a plurality of projections substantially perpendicular to the blade that define a plurality of slots. A washout cavity beneath the blade is defined by an inner surface of the guard and an inner surface of the blade support structure. The washout cavity has an open area of at least 80 percent for allowing unobstructed passage of water substantially along an entire length of the blade.

The apparatus includes a first device for measuring a first load applied to a razor cartridge in a first direction and a second load applied to the razor cartridge in a second direction different than the first direction. The apparatus also includes a second device for measuring an angle at which the cartridge is positioned relative to a predetermined direction.

Abstract: A safety razor blade unit includes a hair pulling member (7) located immediately in front of the cutting edge of a blade (6), the hair pulling member (7) having slots (10) through which the hairs pass defined by a series of elements (9). The edges of the elements (9) which define the slots (10) are formed to notch the hairs as they pass through the slots, and trailing end portions (14) of the elements (9) are inclined to guide the hairs to follow a path for pulling the hairs from the skin just before they are cut through by the blade.

Abstract: A shaving unit includes a skin engagement surface member for contact with the skin in advance of a blade edge and defined by a series of resiliently mounted elements (9) defining between them slots (10) through which hairs can pass while being subjected to a light pulling force to increase the length of hair projecting from the skin prior to cutting. The skin engagement surface member may be a guard of the shaving unit or it can be mounted between two blades.

Abstract: The tandem blades of a razor can be protected when not in use for shaving, without disturbing a pre-set shaving geometry and with reduced risk of damage to the blades and the fingers of a user during manipulation, by providing a shaving cartridge 11 which is movable, relative to a handle 10 of the razor, for retraction behind a shield 23 formed in the handle. Also disclosed are means to provide, in such a razor, replaceable cartridges for a permanent handle which includes a cartridge carrier 61.
