Patent number: 10786923Abstract: A magnetic cutting platform for use with a (e.g., portable hand operated) die cutting machine that is capable of generating a cutting force to be applied to the cutting platform so that designs can be accurately cut from a sheet material. The magnetic cutting platform includes a (e.g., steel) cutting die having a downwardly facing cutting edge which is aligned with the design of the sheet material. A magnetic base of the cutting platform holds the cutting die in place on the sheet material and prevents the cutting edge of the die from moving out of alignment with the design. The cutting die and sheet material are sandwiched and compressed between upper and lower cutting pads to push the cutting edge of the cutting die downwardly through the sheet material to cut the design therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2014Date of Patent: September 29, 2020Inventor: Kevin L. Publication number: 20160193825Abstract: A roller press having upper and lower rollers between which a die is moved so that a shape can be embossed into or cut from a sheet material carried by the die. One of the rollers (e.g., the upper roller) has a diameter which Varies along the length thereof so as to compensate or and reduce bowing of the roller and thereby enable a uniform pressure to he applied across the face of the die. The foregoing is achieved by manufacturing (e.g., molding) the upper roller with a plurality of stepped cylindrical roller pads lying side-by-side one another and having uniformly changing diameters which vary from one roller pad to the next. In particular, the cylindrical roller pad located at the middle of the upper roller has the widest diameter and the roller pads located at the opposite ends of the upper roller have the narrowest diameter.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2015Publication date: July 7, 2016Inventor: Kevin L. Patent number: 9341070Abstract: A rotor body rotates about an axis of rotation. A ledge provides a holding structure for holding blades. A plurality of blades are positioned beneath the ledge. A load slot is sized to allow a mount portion of the blades to be moved radially inwardly of the ledge. The blades are moved circumferentially to have the mounted structure radially inwardly of the ledge. A lock slot is positioned on one circumferential side of the load slot. The lock slot is formed to receive a lock, and the lock is partially received within a portion of at least one of the blades, to lock the blades within the rotor, and a shield slot on a second circumferential side of the load slot. The shield slot is sized to be different from the lock slot such that a lock cannot be inadvertently positioned within the shield slot.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2012Date of Patent: May 17, 2016Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventors: Nicholas Aiello, James Cosby, Kevin L. Patent number: 9140136Abstract: A sealing assembly for use in a gas turbine engine having a disk arranged relative to an axis, the assembly including a circumferential groove defined in the disk and an annular wire seal positioned at least partially within the groove. The groove includes a first sidewall, a base portion adjoining the first sidewall, and a second sidewall adjoining the base portion opposite the first sidewall, wherein the second sidewall is angled in a range greater than 0° and less than 90° with respect to the axis.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2012Date of Patent: September 22, 2015Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventors: Kevin L. Patent number: 9079325Abstract: A chemical etched die to be used in combination with a (e.g., roller) press to cut out shapes that are printed on sheet material. The die includes an outside border that surrounds an inside opening through the die. The size of the inside opening corresponds to the size of the shape to be cut. A cutting edge (i.e., blade) projects from the outside border of the die so as to surround the inside opening therethrough. The cutting edge is positioned at the interface of the outside border and the inside opening of the die whereby none of the outside border extends past the cutting edge and none of the outside border lies between the cutting edge and the inside opening. Accordingly, the cutting edge of the die will be exactly registered with the printed shape to be cut when the shape is surrounded by the outside border of the die.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2012Date of Patent: July 14, 2015Assignee: Ellison Educational Equipment, Inc.Inventor: Kevin L. Publication number: 20140064976Abstract: A rotor for a gas turbine engine includes an annular structure having a blade slot. A hub engagement feature is provided on the annular structure. The hub engagement feature includes first and second surfaces transverse to one another and joined by a fillet that is recessed with respect to the first and second surfaces. A method of manufacturing a rotor includes the steps of machining an annular hub engagement feature into a rotor. The hub engagement feature includes first and second surfaces transverse to one another and is joined by a fillet that is recessed with respect to the first and second surfaces. The method includes the step of peening the fillet, and grinding the first and second surfaces.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 14, 2012Publication date: March 6, 2014Inventors: Kevin L. Patent number: 8661953Abstract: A trimmer to cut a backing on which an overlay is mounted. The trimmer includes cutting blades and a removable fence that has a stop. The fence is carried by a pair of risers that are capable of moving relative to the work surface. A rotatable lever arm is coupled to the risers by a linking cam rod. When the lever arm and linking cam rod are rotated in a first direction, the risers move upwardly from the work surface and the stop of the fence is lifted upwardly and off the work surface to create a gap that enables the backing to move past the fence to the cutting blades to be trimmed. When the lever arm and linking cam rod rotate in an opposite direction, the risers move downwardly toward the work surface, and the stop is lowered against the backing to prevent the overlay from moving to the cutting blades.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2008Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Ellison Educational Equipment, Inc.Inventor: Kevin L.
