  • Publication number: 20080000815
Abstract: An automated object sorting system is provided. In various embodiments, the automated object sorting system includes an automated object extraction assembly and an automated object collection assembly. The automated object extraction assembly extracts one or more objects from an object sorting tray based on one or more attributes and/or traits of interest. The automated collection assembly selectively deposits the extracted objects in selected collection receptacles according to the particular attributes and/or traits of each respective object.

  • Publication number: 20070190521
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a high throughput system, apparatus, and methods useful for efficiently analyzing experimental liquid formulations applied to plants. In various embodiments, the high throughput system includes a liquid formulation dispensing subsystem (LFDS). The LFDS includes an automated moveable sample plate platform for holding at least one sample plate. Each sample plate includes a plurality of wells containing plant specimens. The LFDS is operable to sequentially position select ones of the wells at a well target location. Once a selected well is positioned at the target location, a micro-sprayer assembly, including at least one liquid formulation applicator, applies discrete amounts of a liquid formulation to the plant specimens within each selected well.

  • Patent number: 7134351
Abstract: A coring device includes a base portion that receives an arrayed plurality of samples, the base portion including a plurality of vertically oriented slider rods. A coring portion including an arrayed plurality of samples is slidable along the vertically oriented slider rods between a retracted position and an actuated position where cores are taken from the samples. An extraction portion including arrayed plurality of extraction pins aligned with the arrayed plurality of coring tubes for insertion therein is also slidable along the vertically oriented slider rods between a retracted position and an actuated position where the extraction pins eject cores from the coring tubes. A coring drive mechanism is provided to mechanically move the coring portion between the retracted position and the actuated position.

  • Patent number: 7044306
Abstract: An automated machine is used to handle and manipulate individual pieces of particulate matter. The particulate matter is contained in a bin. The machine operates to pick single individual pieces of the particulate matter from the bin. The picked individual pieces are then conveyed for further handling. Pneumatic transport is primarily used for the conveying operation. One aspect of the handling involves individually weighing each piece of the picked particulate matters. Another aspect of the handling involves sorting the individual pieces of particulate matter into a plurality of receptacles. Yet another aspect of the handling involves both weighing and then sorting the individual pieces of particulate matter, wherein the sorting operation may be performed based upon the measured weight of each piece.

  • Patent number: 6880771
Abstract: A tubular vessel is loaded with a combination of grinding media and a material to be ground. The vessel is capped to contain the grinding media and material therein. Grinding of the contained material is effectuated by reciprocating the capped vessel in a direction parallel to its longitudinal axis. The grinding media may comprise either a ball or a slug, and may further utilizing a plurality of balls, perhaps of different sizes. To increase volume, a plurality of vessels may be gathered together into a sample holder. The sample holder is them reciprocated in a direction parallel to the axes of the included vessels.
