    Abstract: A composite sheet includes a base sheet comprising a single ply of dried stock material that includes non-woven natural fibers or non-woven synthetic fibers or both, with the base sheet having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a base sheet thickness between the top surface and the bottom surface. The composite sheet also includes a scrim formed from a plurality of intersecting strands, with the thickness of the scrim, as defined at the intersections of the strands, being at least one third the base sheet thickness, and with at least a majority portion of the thickness of the mesh layer being embedded within the thickness of the base sheet to provide reinforcement for the base sheet.

    Abstract: A recrystallization inhibition method for determining the presence, relative concentration, and/or activity of thermal hysteresis proteins comprising: providing a proteinaceous composition in a solvent to form a test solution; flash freezing said solution; raising the temperature of the frozen solution to an appropriate annealing temperature that allows for a partial melt, while limiting heterogeneity in ice grain sizes within said solution; maintaining said frozen solution at the annealing temperature for a length of time sufficient to allow for recrystallization; monitoring the ice crystal grain size changes over time; and determining the presence of functional thermal hysteresis proteins in said solution given the retention of significantly smaller ice crystal grain sizes relative to at least one control solution.

    Abstract: A pack former includes a staging land for initially receiving a plurality of rolls in a row. A platen adjoins the staging land, and is sized in width to engage the row in an integer multiple of the rolls to set a pack width. An actuator reciprocates the platen over the staging land to push the row onto a conveyor belt. Disposed atop the conveyor belt are front and back guides spaced laterally apart to correspond with the pack width. A stop gate is disposed atop the conveyor belt to define a packing zone for collecting a plurality of rolls being transported by the conveyor belt, with the packing zone being sized in length to set a pack depth in integer multiples of the rolls. An actuator reciprocates the gate between open and closed positions to marshal the rolls in the packing zone in a specific width and depth configuration for subsequent transport atop the conveyor belt.

    Abstract: A table or desk is provided with a horizontally enlarged worksurface, and a bracket-supported rear panel arrangement can be readily mounted to a project upwardly along a rear edge of the worksurface. The panel arrangement includes a pair of upright brackets which have C-shaped lower parts which create a clamping engagement around the rear edge of the worksurface so that special constructional features on the worksurface are not required. The brackets have upright parts which project upwardly and, along rear vertical edges thereof, have attachment structure for permitting an upright panel to be attached thereto, which panel is then disposed directly adjacent the rear edge of the worksurface and projects upwardly and longitudinally thereof. The bracket includes first and second attachment structures associated therewith, with one attachment structure permitting a grid-like panel to be mounted thereon.

    Abstract: A table having a horizontally enlarged worksurface, and a pair of leg assemblies fixed to the worksurface directly at the opposite end edges thereof and projecting downwardly for engagement with a floor. Each leg assembly includes an upright leg member disposed directly at the rear corner of the worksurface, and at its lower end this leg is fixed to a horizontally elongate foot which projects forwardly for engagement with the floor. The leg adjacent its upper end has a support bracket which projects forwardly directly under and fixedly secured to the worksurface in close proximity to the end edge thereof. The outer side surfaces of the leg and base are preferably vertically flat and substantially vertically coplanar, and are also substantially vertically coplanar with the end edge of the table. A cable-accommodating trough is fixed to and extends horizontally between the legs in downwardly spaced relation from the rear edge of the worksurface.

    Abstract: A freestanding table having a worksurface supported on height-adjustable legs, each having a height-adjusting mechanism. These mechanisms are simultaneously driven through a driving element such as an endless chain driven by a driving sprocket disposed adjacent the underside of the worksurface. The driving sprocket is nonrotatably connected to a rotatable hub supported in a recess in the worksurface, which recess also accommodates a foldable crank. The crank when in a folded and stored position is disposed in the recess so as to be substantially flush with the upper surface of the worksurface. The crank is pivotally joined about a first axis to an intermediate link which in turn is pivotally joined about a second axis to a rotatable hub so that the crank can be pivoted upwardly through an angle of about 180.degree. so as to be disposed above the worksurface to permit manual gripping and hence rotation thereof when height adjustment is desired.

    Abstract: A double filamented lamp with one filament being a back up for the other filament may be formed with two internal capsules enclosed in a single exterior sheath. Each filament is securely positioned away from, and protected from the activity of the other filament. By securely coupling one capsule to the sheath, and the second capsule to the lamp base, both capsules are accurately positioned, and do not vibrate in the exterior sheath.
