Abstract: The driver of a parked vehicle receives a warning message if the vehicle is parked in violation of parking restrictions. In one aspect, the driver belongs to an organization that monitors vehicles parked in restricted areas. When an informant observes a vehicle parked in violation of parking restrictions, the informant transmits location and vehicle identification information to a central server. The server sends a notification to the member if the vehicle is parked illegally. In another aspect, location information is automatically transmitted to the server when loss of a wireless connection between the vehicle and the driver's communication device indicates the vehicle is in a parked condition. In another aspect, the driver transmits location information to the server before leaving a parked vehicle. The rules and restrictions applicable to the vehicle's location are then sent to the driver's communication device.
