Publication number: 20240066709Abstract: An end effector is presented. The end effector comprises a housing, an actuated mechanical retainer, and a normalizing nosepiece assembly. The actuated mechanical retainer is connected to the housing and configured to selectively constrain and release the normalizing nosepiece assembly from the housing. The normalizing nosepiece assembly is moveable relative to the housing and having a nosepiece bushing configured to contact a workpiece.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 10, 2023Publication date: February 29, 2024Inventors: Harinder Singh Oberoi, Kevin M. Patent number: 10663276Abstract: Provided are self-retractable centering assemblies and methods of using these assemblies for alignment of parts having determinant assembly alignment holes. An assembly includes a center pin having a threaded portion threadably engaging a drive component. The assembly also includes a puller bushing rotatably coupled to the drive component. The center pin protrudes through the puller bushing and can slide with respect to the puller bushing when the drive component is rotated relative to the center pin. The sliding distance is controlled by a limiter disposed within the cavity of the puller bushing. During operation, a portion of the center pin extends from the puller bushing and is inserted into alignment holes of parts being aligned. The drive component is rotated relative to the center pin resulting in the center pin being pulled out of the alignment holes while the puller bushing is being pressed against the parts.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2018Date of Patent: May 26, 2020Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Jason L. Hicks, Kevin M. Barrick, Branko Sarh, Harinder S. Oberoi

Patent number: 10549336Abstract: A method and apparatus for installing a fastener is provided. The apparatus comprises a plate system and an air system that is connected to the plate system. The plate system has a plurality of air passages and at least one opening. The air system directs air through the plurality of air passages, out of the opening, and in a selected direction substantially parallel to a surface of a structure into which a fastener is to be installed such that the air impinges on an exposed portion of a shaft of the fastener.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2016Date of Patent: February 4, 2020Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Harinder S. Oberoi, Kevin M. Barrick, Branko Sarh, Alfredo Gerosa, Melissa Ann Findlay

Patent number: 7232095Abstract: A crew rest berth support system includes a crew berth assembly having first and second berths. Hook assemblies suspend the first berth from mobile platform structure. Pin assemblies suspend the second berth from the structure. Cam assemblies connect the first and second berths. The hook assemblies permit first berth rotation in a first path and the pin assemblies permit second berth rotation in a second path substantially perpendicular to the first path. When the first and second berths are connected using the cam assemblies the crew berth assembly is restrained from motion in either the first or the second paths. An entrance cap rotatably mounted to the platform structure prior to the first and second berths is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2004Date of Patent: June 19, 2007Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: James R Park, Karen L Hills, Jeffrey D Farnsworth, William E McCammon, Jerry A Grayson, Susan L Robinson, Kevin M Barrick
