    Abstract: A guided wave radar measurement instrument comprises a probe defining a guided wave radar transmission line. A pulse circuit is connected to the probe for generating a very fast stream of pulses on the transmission line and receiving reflected pulses returned on the transmission line. The reflected pulses represent a characteristic of a material being measured. An equivalent time sampling circuit is connected to the pulse circuit operable to sample reflected pulses to build a time multiplied picture of the reflected pulses and comprises a ramp generator circuit generating a saw tooth ramp signal used to selectively delay sampling reflected pulses to build the time multiplied picture. In one aspect of the instrument, the saw tooth ramp signal has a controlled ramp start for each cycle and retrace at an end of the cycle.

    Abstract: A thermal dispersion flow/level switch includes a dual element probe assembly. Each element comprises an RTD sensor. The two RTD's are driven at different currents at a fixed ratio so that one RTD is self heated to establish a temperature differential. When a process product comes in contact with the heated sensor, the thermal differential is diminished. The differential is set to determine presence or absence of a process media and provide a change of contact state responsive thereto. In a flow application under no flow or low flow conditions, the RTDs will stabilize with a sufficient temperature differential which decreases in response to higher flow rates.

    Abstract: A two-wire ultrasonic transmitter senses level of a material and controls current of power supplied thereto to a magnitude representing sensed level The transmitter comprises a transducer mounted in proximity to a material, the level of which is being sensed. A power supply circuit receives power for operating the instrument. A drive circuit is connected to the transducer and the power supply circuit and periodically energizes the transducer to transmit an energy pulse to be reflected off of a surface of the sensed material. An amplifier circuit is connected to the transducer and develops an analog signal having a magnitude corresponding to reflected energy received by the transducer.

    Abstract: An ultrasonic level detector includes a transducer for generating and receiving bursts of sonic energy at a surface to locate the position of the surface. In response to receiving a burst of energy reflected from the surface, the transducer generates an electrical signal, which is then supplied to a variable gain amplifier. After amplification, the electrical signal is supplied to a comparator and a peak detector. The comparator generates a timing signal upon the electrical signal exceeding a threshold. A window generator circuit generates a receive window that controls whether the electrical signal is supplied to the comparator and the magnitude of the threshold on the comparator. The peak detector determines the maximum amplitude of the electrical signal, which may be used to vary the amplifier gain and the number of pulses included in an excitation signal which drives the transducer. Upon receipt of the timing signal, a microprocessor determines the distance between the transducer and the detected surface.
