  • Patent number: 11957481
Abstract: Disclosed are a joint manipulation device and system for increasing the range of motion of a joint of a user, and monitoring the compliance of the user's operation of the joint manipulation device to standards or guidelines set by a monitoring entity. Certain sensors associated with the joint manipulation device may cause an indicator to transmit an alert to the user based on whether or not the device is sufficiently engaged with a limb or joint of the user to be considered in compliance. Additionally, progress data associated with the range of motion of the user's joint may be obtained by a sensor assembly and transmitted to one or more systems associated with the device system. Progress data obtained during a period of non-compliant use of the device may be excluded from the transmitted data, thereby generating a set of compliant progress data for accurate analysis of device effectiveness.

  • Publication number: 20180132918
Abstract: The invention relates to a delivery system, device and method for delivering biomaterials for fracture fixation (including augmented fixation), in particular, for delivery of bone cements. The mixing system ensures the biomaterial only commences setting upon extrusion from the mixer, cannula or during injection through an appropriate internal fracture fixation device, allowing for rapid closing by the surgeon. The system also permits the surgeon to cease injecting the cement for an extended period of time before continuing the injection in another area using the same cartridge, through the simple removal of one mixer and attaching another in its place. The invention also provides a method of delivery of biomaterials to a desired implantation site.

  • Publication number: 20130023885
Abstract: A unidirectional plunger device for a syringe includes a base member and a ratchet mechanism. The base member is configured to attach to the proximal end of the syringe body such that the ratchet mechanism engages the plunger of the syringe. The ratchet mechanism may include a pawl configured to engage teeth on a plunger rod of the plunger. The ratchet mechanism is desirably configured to permit distal movement of the plunger while resisting proximal movement of the plunger. The unidirectional plunger device may be a retrofit that can be attached to (e.g., clipped onto) an existing syringe design. The device may be used in conjunction with a two-barrel syringe for dispensing a two-part curable composition, such as calcium phosphate bone cement or epoxy resin.

  • Publication number: 20100102992
Abstract: Systems and methods are operable to capture images of weather along a portion of a flight path of an aircraft, and are operable to wirelessly communicate information corresponding to the captured images to the aircraft. An exemplary embodiment has at least one camera pointed in a direction corresponding to a portion of the flight path of the aircraft and configured to capture images of weather in proximity to the portion of the flight path, and has a transceiver configured to wirelessly communicate images captured by the at least one camera.

  • Publication number: 20090075327
Abstract: The invention relates to the production of secondary metabolites by fungi. More particularly, the invention relates to improvement of production of commercially important secondary metabolites by fungi. The invention provides methods for improving secondary metabolite production in a fungus, comprising modulating the expression of a gene involved in regulation of secondary metabolite production.

  • Publication number: 20070026505
Abstract: Bacterial strains that are engineered to increase the production of amino acids, including aspartate-derived amino acids (e.g., methionine, lysine, threonine, isoleucine, and S-adenosylmethionine (S-AM)) and cysteine, and related metabolites are described. The strains can be genetically engineered to harbor one or more nucleic acid molecules (e.g., recombinant nucleic acid molecules) encoding a polypeptide (e.g., a polypeptide that is heterologous or homologous to the host cell) and/or they may be engineered to increase or decrease expression and/or activity of polypeptides (e.g., by mutation of endogenous nucleic acid sequences).
