  • Publication number: 20240084160
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for preparing a multilayer coating system on a substrate including at least the steps of applying a first primer coating material composition to a substrate (step (1)), applying a second base coating material composition to the first coating film formed in step (1) prior to curing the first coating film and forming a second coating film (step (2)), applying a third clear coating material composition to the second coating film formed in step (2) prior to curing the second coating film and forming a third coating film (step (3)), and jointly curing the first, second and third coating films (step (4)).

  • Patent number: 11884837
Abstract: Described herein is a 2K solvent borne coating system. The coating system includes an epoxy component (A), including: i) an epoxy resin; ii)—a solvent; iii)—at least one compound of formula (I): [(ER)x(R?O)y(HO)z(R?)t(SiO(4-x-y-z-t)]m??(I) and/or oligomer or polymer compounds of the compound of formula (I), and iv)—optionally, at least one non-catalytic additive; and an acid resin component (B), including: an carboxylic acid resin; a solvent; optionally, at least one catalyst; and optionally, at least one additive. Also described herein are a 2K coating composition, a method to coat an automotive substrate with the composition, and a scratch and mar resistant coated surface of the 2K coating composition.

  • Patent number: 11459483
Abstract: A double coating, curing method, cured coating, and kit are provided. A first layer of the double coating can be a first cure coating composition, which has a first hydroxy-functional resin, a first crosslinking agent, and a non-polar catalyst. A second layer of a second cure coating composition can have a second hydroxy-functional resin, a second crosslinking agent, and a polar catalyst. The non-polar catalyst catalyzes crosslinking between the second hydroxy-functional resin and crosslinking agent, and not between the first hydroxy-functional resin and crosslinking agent. The polar catalyst catalyzes crosslinking between the first hydroxy-functional resin and crosslinking agent, and not between the second hydroxy-functional resin and crosslinking agent. The polarity of the catalysts can facilitate catalyst migration from one layer to the other. The separate compositions can be shelf-stable and/or the curing can occur at low temperature.

  • Publication number: 20210371693
Abstract: Provided herein is a two-component clearcoat composition that contains a first component comprising a hydroxyl-functional resin; and a second component comprising a crosslinking agent which is a first isocyanate resin which is unblocked; wherein at least one of the first component and the second component further comprises a blocked isocyanate resin which is a reacted form of a second isocyanate resin and a blocking agent; and wherein the first isocyanate resin and the second isocyanate resin are capable of reacting with the hydroxyl-functional resin to form a crosslinked coating. Further provided herein is a substrate coated with the clearcoat composition that exhibits improved visual appearance to the coated substrate, such as reduced orange peel and an increased balance value.
