  • Patent number: 6494819
Abstract: A combined abdominals (main and lower abs)/thighs/calves exercise device, which composes a base support member assembly upon which the user sits, a partially vertical and horizontal resistance mast with resilient restorative properties mounted upon the base support member support, and a collar oriented upon the upper mast. A bracket means is reciprocally mounted upon the collar and is adapted to hold a range of vertical positions along same. A pair of grippable bars transversely mounted upon the outer end of bracket means, which bars permit the user to train and strengthen major and minor muscle sets dependent upon the physical orientation of the grippable bars.

  • Patent number: 6390960
Abstract: A portable exercise device identified for abs and hips conditioning comprising a generally rectangular, rigid frame supporting a tilted seat and laterally aligned, handle bars used for hand bracing when the user is seated thereon. A single lever arm of an elbow configuration is transversely disposed above the seat and is adapted for pivotal lifting which is effected by the thigh movements. The device has a moment means positioned beneath the seat, which means is operatively tied to the lever arm pivot point. Resilient tensioning means are also secured to the frame and provide the variable countervailing force needed to resist the user imposed arcuate movement of the lever arm.

  • Patent number: 6296598
Abstract: A portable, lap-based multi-exercise device which includes a first pair of elongate parallel members forming a base component and defining a trough for receiving the lever end of a traveling spanner bar; a pair of pivotable, upstanding lateral side bars attached at their lower ends to the torso-oriented, longitudinal ends of the trough; a first cross bar is connected pivotally to the upper ends of the side members and is adapted to receive either manual or user chest exertion, while is translated to the upper end of the spanner bar which then moves outwardly in response to user exertion thereon. A second transverse bar is pinned to the outer end of the trough and provides a second set of manual grips adapted for moving the trough component arcuately towards the first cross members, thereby moving the spanner bar along the trough, to steady the device while user effort is being imposed on the latter component.

  • Patent number: 6290630
Abstract: A free-standing physical exercise device which can be configured for either kneeling or standing use, including a ground supported frame, a vertical mast secured hingedly thereto for storage, a slidable position support mechanism mounted on the mast, and a set of hand grippable levers, which can be preset to one of three extension angles for the lever, a lever support bracket permitting the arcuate movement of the lever bars about the support mechanism, and means to interruptibly lock the slidable position support mechanism on the mast in any one of a plurality of operating modes. A dual direction, resistance means is operatively connected between the lever support bracket and the mast-mounted, slidable mechanism which then provides a variable resistance to the arcuate motion of the levers in both directions.

  • Patent number: 6117055
Abstract: A multi-function exercise device having an elongate frame member with a conjoined seating component located on the frame and with the seating component adapted to lock into either of two operating positions facing the longitudinal ends. The forward-facing end has a pair of upstanding lever members adapted for manual arcuate movement having a set of resilient tensioning bands provided for a countervailing force for a first set of exercises. At the other frame end, is a vertical mast secured pivotally at its lower end to the frame member, and also provided with a upper end, manually actionable cross bar, for arm exercises. A pair of foot rests are mounted midway of the vertical mast for conducting certain leg exercises using a second set of tensioning bands which provide the countervailing force for the opposing end set of exercises.

  • Patent number: 6106439
Abstract: A dual-purpose exercise machine, adapted to alternately condition two different sets of muscles, one device mode being for the legs and buttocks muscle sets (the foot stepper mode), and the other device position being for the pectoral/chest muscles and the upper arm muscles (biceps/triceps) in the bench press and ring extension modes. In the stepper mode, the device resembles a conventional stepping machine, having an upstanding vertical mast, conveniently formed by parallel elongate rigid members, set with a transverse span. A planar platform is securely mounted within the frame of the mast. An opposing pair of manual exertion resistance means, conveniently of hydraulic dampers, are disposed substantially horizontal, linked to the lever arms. They are mechanically linked to provide the variable resistance in opposition to alternating depression by user exerted upon foot-step platforms.

  • Patent number: 5964685
Abstract: A lap-based exercise device for conditioning abdominals and arms is provided. It includes a horizontal first pair of parallel members, which pair defines an elongate trough that concurrently receives one end of a rigid spanner bar and a linked one end of an associated band tensioning means. The other end of the spanner bar is pinned to a second pair of upstanding, spaced apart members pressing the torso, with such upstanding members being linked at their lower ends to the longitudinal ends of the first pair via a second torso-side crossbar. A third crossbar is pinned to the outer longitudinal ends of the first parallel pair and includes a pair of manually grippable means for activation of the device. Upon curling movement of the grippable means toward the user torso, the spanner bar and the operatively linked tensioning means provide the counter resistance which allows for a smoother range of arcuate arm motion for the exerciser.

  • Patent number: 5759138
Abstract: A portable abdominal and arm exercise device includes a first pair of elongate parallel rigid members forming a base with an elongate trough therein for receiving one end of a rigid spanning bar, a second pair of upstanding spaced-apart rigid members attached at their lower ends to the first pair of elongate parallel rigid members and attached at their upper ends to one end of a cross bar. The cross-bar is attached at its other end to the rigid spanning bar.
