Publication number: 20230172313Abstract: A running shoe and a flexion plate insert. An upper and an outsole together define an inner volume. A tensioning system selectively constricts the shoe. Trimmable traction formations project from the shoe outsole, and cuttable drainage plugs permit draining of water. A flexion plate exhibiting asymmetric flexion characteristics is selectively retained atop the outsole by engagement of an aperture in the flexion plate with a mounting plug retained within the shoe or by a removable first midsole. The mounting plug and the aperture have eccentric portions that are out of alignment when the flexion plate and the first midsole are aligned and that align when the first midsole and the flexion plate are disposed at a given, non-zero angle. The first midsole can be an upper midsole, and a second, lower midsole can be disposed in a facing relationship with the upper midsole with the flexion plate therebetween.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2022Publication date: June 8, 2023Inventors: David H. Dombrow, Kevin P. Fallon

Publication number: 20210052038Abstract: A textile upper for an article of footwear includes at least one microclimate modulation structure located at one or more regions of the upper. In an embodiment, a microclimate modulation structure includes a plurality of knitted strands, the knitted strands including a first strand type and a second strand type, the first strand type having a greater thermal conductivity than the second strand type. In another embodiment, the microclimate modulation structure includes an uneven surface that includes a plurality of knitted beams and a plurality of indentations defined between the knitted beams.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2020Publication date: February 25, 2021Inventors: David Dombrow, Kevin P. Fallon, Thomas White

Patent number: 10051918Abstract: An article of footwear includes a sole structure and an upper attached to the sole structure. The upper is formed from a textile including interlocked strands oriented in a predetermined configuration. The strands include one or more inelastic strands operable to provide stretch and/or recovery properties to the upper.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2016Date of Patent: August 21, 2018Assignee: Under Armour, Inc.Inventors: David Dombrow, Kevin P. Fallon, Thomas White

Publication number: 20170367439Abstract: An improved sole structure for article of footwear is disclosed herein. The sole structure includes a midsole and an outsole coupled to the midsole. The midsole includes a channel extending from the toe end to the heel end of the midsole. The sole structure further includes a housing with a plurality of segments disposed within the channel. A cable is threaded through the plurality of segments of the housing with a first end of the cable being disposed proximate to the toe end of the midsole, and the second end of the cable extends out of the rear end of the midsole. A tensioning mechanism is operatively coupled to the second end of the cable to alter the amount of tension in the cable, and, ultimately, alter the amount of flexibility of the sole structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2017Publication date: December 28, 2017Inventor: Kevin P. Fallon

Patent number: 9700098Abstract: An article of footwear that includes an upper that secures the article of footwear to a wearer. The footwear also includes a sole assembly that is operably coupled to the upper. The sole assembly includes an outsole having a plurality of cleats and a groove. The groove includes a first internal surface and a second internal surface. The first and second internal surfaces move away from each other as the sole assembly flexes in a first direction, and the first and second internal surfaces abut each other to limit movement of the sole assembly in a second direction opposite the first direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2016Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignee: NIKE, Inc.Inventors: Michael S. Amos, Brian D. Baker, Alexandre Baudouin, Kevin P. Fallon

Patent number: 7832123Abstract: A set of shoes for use by members of a team. The shoes allow for a uniform appearance in a team environment by way of substantially similar uppers, while providing individualized performance specifications, with respect to support and breathability, for each upper. The substantially similar appearance of the upper may be due to material overlays, stitch patterns, color scheme and/or perforations and may be based on team criteria. The uppers are materially different from each other due to internal or external supports, material types and/or breathability. The substantially similar upper provides a uniform appearance for the team. The individualized performance specifications of each upper provide the comfort, performance and/or safety preferences desired by each player.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2006Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Nike, Inc.Inventors: Kevin P.
