  • Publication number: 20170283288
Abstract: A heat transfer wastewater treatment system utilizes the heat available in raw wastewater flowing into an outdoor treatment pond or other vessel of a wastewater treatment plant to increase the temperature of effluent that is drawn from the pond or other vessel and is provided to a nitrification vessel after warming, thereby improving ammonia reduction provided by the treatment plant, especially during the winter season. The system utilizes the environmentally sustainable green energy available in the raw influent to provide passive heat transfer for improved wastewater treatment.

  • Publication number: 20100078373
Abstract: An submersible media-filled wastewater treatment filter (18) for use with a septic tank (10) or other treatment unit utilizes a special media (30) to provide solids separation and biological treatment within the filter unit. The media is a highly compressible material with a large surface area to volume ratio. As microorganisms that provide biological treatment of the wastewater flowing therethough grow and multiply in the filter media, the pores of the media may become clogged with biomass and require flushing. The filter provides for in place regeneration of the media. For example, a tool (38) can be used from above the ground surface to compress the media (30), thus flushing the accumulated solids out of the filter media and into the tank (10) in which it is installed.

  • Patent number: 7662277
Abstract: An improved wastewater treatment apparatus is provided. The waste treatment apparatus illustratively follows a primary treatment system such as, for example, a septic tank, a primary clarifier, a lagoon, or an activated sludge process.

  • Publication number: 20100012557
Abstract: A simple and improved septic tank wastewater treatment system is needed to improve effluent quality and reduce conventional onsite system failures such as hydraulic overloading and formation of a clogging biomat in the soil treatment area. One illustrative embodiment of the septic tank system (10, 100, 122) disclosed includes a septic tank system having a primary treatment compartment (28, 116) for settling solids and floating fats, oils and grease, and a second treatment compartment (34, 141) adapted to provide an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) process for providing additional treatment of the wastewater prior to discharge to soil treatment areas. Another illustrative embodiment of the septic tank system includes separate primary (100) and UASB tanks (122) coupled in series.

  • Patent number: 6974536
Abstract: An apparatus provides for treatment of primary effluent from residential and commercial establishments to allow subsurface or surface disposable of wastewater. A single tank includes dosing and recirculation chambers 28, 30 having no direct fluid communication therebetween and divided by a vertical chamber wall 32. A filter layer 26 is positioned atop both chambers such that wastewater that is filtered therein then flows into both the dosing and recirculation chambers. The position of the wall 32 determines the proportion of filtered wastewater that flows into each chamber by gravity.

  • Publication number: 20040265061
Abstract: A subsurface wastewater infiltration system including a subsurface dripline enclosed within a porous medium or chamber providing storage volume around the dripline. The porous medium or chamber may be covered with a geotextile or filter material and sealed at dripline inlet and outlet to prevent soil intrusion. The chamber illustratively contains access openings to the ground surface allowing inspection and maintenance of the disposal system without excavation. The access openings provide air recirculation within the disposal system for proper operation and treatment of the effluent.

  • Patent number: 6616832
Abstract: A wastewater treatment unit (10) including a recirculation chamber (32), a dosing chamber (34) having no direct fluid connection to the recirculation chamber (32), and at least two filter layers (28, 30) in a single tank (12). Each filter layer (28, 30) containing filter media (56) and being located above the recirculation (32) and dosing chambers (34). The wastewater treatment unit (10) also including an influent pipe (50), a recirculation pump (72) located in the recirculation chamber (32), and an effluent discharge pipe (88) connected to the dosing chamber (34).

  • Patent number: 6132599
Abstract: A wastewater treatment unit (10) includes a recirculation chamber (32), a dosing chamber (34) having no direct fluid connection to the recirculation chamber, and at least two filter layers (28,30) in a single tank (12). Each filter layer contains filter media (56) and is located atop the recirculation and dosing chambers. The wastewater treatment unit also includes an influent pipe (50) connected to the recirculation chamber, a recirculation pump (72), a recirculation valve (74), and an effluent discharge pipe (88) connected to the dosing chamber. In operation, the influent pipe directs wastewater entering the unit into the recirculation chamber. The recirculation pump feeds wastewater from the recirculation chamber onto the filter layers. The recirculation valve then directs the filtrate back to the recirculation and dosing chambers. The filtrate is then discharged from the unit via the effluent discharge pipe.
