Patent number: 11488815Abstract: A method of mass and/or ion mobility spectrometry is disclosed that comprises accumulating ions for a first period of time (T1) one or more times so as to form one or more first groups of ions, accumulating ions for a second period of time (T2) one or more times so as to form one or more second groups of ions, wherein the second period of time (T2) is less that the first period of time (T1), analysing the one or more first groups of ions to generate one or more first data sets, analysing the one or more second groups of ions to generate one or more second data sets, and determining whether the one or more first data sets comprise saturated and/or distorted data. If it is determined that the one or more first data sets comprise saturated and/or distorted data, then the method further comprises replacing the saturated and/or distorted data from the one or more first data sets with corresponding data from the one or more second data sets.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2021Date of Patent: November 1, 2022Assignee: Micromass UK LimitedInventors: Martin Raymond Green, Jason Lee Wildgoose, Steven Derek Pringle, Kevin R. Publication number: 20150144781Abstract: A method for controlling the supply of ions from a liquid chromatograph through an ion source into a mass spectrometer. The ion source is foreseen to be either an electrospray ionization sources or an impaction spraying ion sources. The ion source can be operated in two modes: a mode in which ions are supplied into the mass spectrometer and a mode in which ions are prevented to be supplied into the mass spectrometer. In this latter mode, the supply of ions into the mass spectrometer is prevented by reducing the potential applied to the ionization source, reducing the nebulizer gas flow and/or increasing the cone gas flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2013Publication date: May 28, 2015Applicant: Micromass UK LimitedInventors: Kevin R. Howes, Simon Meffan-Main, Richard B. Moulds

Patent number: 8536522Abstract: A detachable and replaceable ion source for a mass spectrometer. The ion source comprises a housing which defines an ion source chamber, an ion source mounting means complementary to mounting means on the mass spectrometer to detachably couple with the mass spectrometer. This allows movement of the housing to bring the ion source chamber into a position of use at the inlet of said mass spectrometer and to take the ion source chamber from said position of use into a retracted position. Sealing means is provided to create an air tight seal between the housing and the mass spectrometer when the ion source chamber is in its position of use. A release mechanism is provided which cooperates with the mass spectrometer to allow the said movement of said housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2009Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: Micromass UK LimitedInventors: Kevin R. Howes, Ian Trivett, Paul Anthony Read, Richard B. Moulds

Patent number: 8487239Abstract: An ion source, a mass spectrometer and a method of enhancing the performance of an ion source for use with a mass spectrometer. The ion source has a housing incorporating an ion source enclosure defining a chamber and an outer cover remote from the chamber. A fluid flow passageway is provided between the ion source enclosure and the outer cover. The method of the invention comprising supplying to the ion source housing a regulated flow of fluid through the fluid passageways so as to maintain the ion source enclosure within a predetermined temperature range of substantially between 60° c. and 80° c. and preferably at 70° c.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2009Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: Micromass UK LimitedInventors: Kevin R. Howes, Eliot Powell, Paul Read
