  • Patent number: 9707633
Abstract: A miter saw includes a base, a table disposed on the base and having a top surface extending between a front end and a rear end of the table, a cutting assembly overlying the table, the cutting assembly including a rotatable cutting blade having a peripheral cutting edge, and a motor for driving the cutting blade. The miter saw has at least one guide rail interconnecting the table and the cutting assembly for guiding sliding movement of the cutting assembly over the table between a rear-most position and a forward-most position. A locking assembly is coupled with the cutting assembly for locking the cutting assembly in only one position between the rear-most position and the forward-most position. During a cutting operation, the locking assembly remains coupled with the cutting assembly while the cutting blade moves downwardly for preventing sliding movement of the cutting assembly.

  • Patent number: 8984977
Abstract: A transmission generally includes a shaft member having a cylindrical outer surface in which longitudinal grooves are formed. Rolling members are disposed in the longitudinal grooves. A gear member having lobes the lobes is disposed between the rolling members and over the shaft member. A clutch spring that at least partially encircles the rolling members and the lobes is also disposed. The clutch spring includes a reduced torque condition that at least defines the clutch spring stretching to accommodate the rolling members leaving the longitudinal grooves and moving to the outer cylindrical surface such that the clutch spring forms a generally elliptical shape in the reduced torque condition.

  • Patent number: 8418590
Abstract: A miter saw includes a base, and a table disposed on the base, the table having a top surface extending between a front end and a rear end of the table. The miter saw also includes a cutting assembly overlying the table, the cutting assembly including a rotatable cutting blade having a peripheral cutting edge, and a motor for driving said cutting blade. At least one guide rail is connected with the table and coupled with the cutting assembly for guiding sliding movement of the cutting assembly over the table between a rear-most position and a forward-most position. The miter saw includes a locking assembly coupled with at least one of the cutting assembly and the at least one guide rail for locking the cutting assembly in an intermediate position located between the rear-most position and the forward-most position.

  • Patent number: 8388417
Abstract: An angle grinder is provided including a radial fan assembly. The radial fan assembly is configured to direct exhaust radially outwardly and axially away from a user of the angle grinder. Brush card assemblies for an angle grinder are also provided. The brush card assemblies provide for the securing of brush cards to a field case of the angle grinder by the interface between the field case and brush cards. Additionally, a spindle lock mechanism and a safety mechanism for an angle grinder are provided.

  • Patent number: 8347750
Abstract: A transmission generally includes a shaft member having a continuous cylindrical surface portion longitudinally disposed next to a cylindrical outer surface portion interrupted by longitudinal grooves. A first gear assembly has a first clutch spring that holds a first set of rolling members between lobes that extend from a first output gear. A second gear assembly has a second clutch spring that holds a second set of rolling members between lobes that extend from a second output gear. The first gear assembly and the second gear assembly are configured to move longitudinally along the shaft member to a position where at least one of the first gear assembly and the second gear assembly is engaged for rotation with the shaft member when a value of torque at the shaft member is below a torque threshold value.
