Abstract: A strengthened glass sheet product as well as process and an apparatus for making the product. The process comprises cooling the glass sheet by non-contact thermal conduction for sufficiently long to fix a surface compression and central tension of the sheet. The process results in thermally strengthened glass sheets having improved breakage properties.

Abstract: A device for focusing a laser in which a voice coil and LVDT are mounted in parallel alignment with each other and have a common centrally disposed armature. A central bore extends through the armature. A lens is mounted at one end of the armature and a laser is located at the opposite end. The laser beam passes through the central bore and is focused by the voice coil moving the armature which in turn moves the lens. The LVDT accurately positions the armature to focus the laser beam.

Abstract: In some embodiments, an aircraft may include a retractable or extendable landing gear. The landing gear may include a wheel connected to an axle, a strut configured to resist longitudinal compression, and a linear actuator that is partially disposed within an opening of the strut.

Abstract: An actuation apparatus may include a magnetic shape memory (MSM) element configured to compress locally at a portion of the MSM element in response to a perpendicular concentrated portion of a magnetic field. The apparatus may further include a plurality of conductive coils laterally offset from the MSM element. Central axes of each conductive coil of the plurality of conductive coils may be substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the MSM element. The apparatus may also include at least one permanent magnet in proximity to the MSM element. The permanent magnet may generate a significant portion of the magnetic field. By successively applying, reversing, and reducing or eliminating electrical currents applied to the conductive coils, a position of the perpendicular concentrated portion of the magnetic field may be moved relative to the MSM element.

Abstract: An interconnect assembly for an embedded chip package includes a dielectric layer, first metal layer comprising upper contact pads, second metal layer comprising lower contact pads, and metalized connections formed through the dielectric layer and in contact with the upper and lower contact pads to form electrical connections therebetween. A first surface of the upper contact pads is affixed to a top surface of the dielectric layer and a first surface of the lower contact pads is affixed to a bottom surface of the dielectric layer. An input/output (I/O) of a first side of the interconnect assembly is formed on a surface of the lower contact pads that is opposite the first surface of the lower contact pads, and an I/O of a second side of the interconnect assembly is formed on a surface of the upper contact pads that is opposite the first surface of the upper contact pads.

Abstract: A stationary exercise cycle. The stationary exercise cycle includes a frame, a crank rotatably connected to the frame, a driven wheel rotatably connected to the frame, and a frame stiffener. The frame includes a down tube and a fork. The crank and the driven wheel are in operative communication via a continuous flexible member. The frame stiffener is connected to the down tube and the fork and encircled by the continuous flexible member.

Abstract: There is provided a lactic acid bacteria strain, Lactococcus lactis with accession number IDAC 270613-01, having a short fermentation lag phase of 1 to 5 hours which is compatible with modern bread making methods. Pre-ferment methods which use the strain for manufacture of leavened products and the leavened products produced therefrom are also disclosed.

Abstract: A system is described that includes a known fuels database of data from gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses of a library of fuels with known fuel properties for a multiple known fuel samples. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry equipment can acquire gas chromatography-mass spectrometry data for an unknown fuel sample. A metaspectrum module can accept and transform the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry data collected by the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry equipment for the unknown fuel sample into a single metaspectrum for the unknown fuel sample, wherein the metaspectrum is a quantitative representation of every compound detected in the unknown fuel sample. A correlation module can correlate the metaspectrum for the unknown fuel sample to a plurality of fuel properties of known fuel samples using a regression model to predict fuel properties for the unknown fuel sample. A reporting module can report the fuel properties for the unknown fuel sample to a user.

Abstract: A colony basket and method of using the same for handling poultry from DOC through the growing process and on to a production facility comprising a harvesting system, a loading system, a transport system, an unloading and storing system, hanging system and cleaning system. The system and method performs the steps of harvesting and colonizing live poultry into a singly stackable and transportable colony basket, stacking and loading the trays on a transport, unloading and temporarily storing the poultry for subsequent processing. The system and method further includes the use of a modular colony basket for interchangeable use with the described system.

The sealed header assembly includes a wire cover removably mounted to the housing. A seal is held within the housing by a seal cap. Abstract: Methods and systems to update controls in vehicle modules. Updating controls can include downloading an update to a vehicle from a server, upon interruption of the update, sending a download instruction to a proxy operating on a mobile device to resume update download at an offset location, resuming download of the update from the offset location using the mobile device, and sending the resumed part of the update from the mobile device to the vehicle when the vehicle requests an update from the proxy. The proxy can be an application running on the mobile device, which can use cellular or non-cellular communication and be away from the vehicle when completing download of a control update.

Abstract: A flashlight is provided. The flashlight includes a frame defined by a rail that extends around a central opening predominantly within a single plane, a mounting loop extending outboard of the frame on a first end, a planar circuit board disposed within the central opening. The plane of the circuit board coincident with the plane of the frame, an LED light disposed on the circuit board, where a light emitting end of the LED light extending through the frame on a second end of the frame opposite the first end. A rechargeable battery is disposed on the circuit board, a switch is provided that couples the battery to the LED light. An actuator of the switch extends through the frame between the first and second ends, a USB connector is disposed on the circuit board, the USB connector extends through the frame between the first and second ends and a battery charger is disposed on the circuit board that charges the battery via energy received through the USB connector.

Abstract: A notification service receives messages including various data from application services, and provides notifications including that data to the appropriate computing devices. Each computing device includes a notification system that receives notifications from the notification service and provides those notifications to the appropriate applications on the computing device. If an application is not allowed to run on a computing device, the notification system on the computing device provides an indication to the notification service to block notifications for the application on the computing device. The notification service ceases providing notifications to a computing device targeting applications for which notifications are blocked on the computing device until an indication is received from the computing device to unblock notifications for the application.

Abstract: Bleeding from blood vessels located in difficult-to-compress regions of the body (especially the abdomen, pelvic or groin region) is controlled by the use of a portable, small-footprint belt-like device that contains multiple inflatable bladders. The inflatable bladders are selectively positioned and inflated over exsanguinating blood vessels, thereby exerting pressure to stop the bleeding. The device may also be used to provide perfusion support in low flow disease states such as hemorrhagic shock and cardiac arrest.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a lid support and positioner that is quite versatile in how it can cooperate with the handle of cooking vessels to overly the handle, and to underly, engage and provide support for a cover or lid of the cooking vessel that is positioned off center relative to an upward opening cooking chamber of the vessel to permit the cooking chamber to breathe so as to minimize or prevent bubble-over or boil-over of cooking fluids. When used with cooking vessels that have elongate handles, the lid support and positioner may be adjustable positioned on the length of the handle to underly, engage and support a peripheral portion of an off-center cover or lid at a range of locations where the lid selectively covers/uncovers different proportions of the cooking chamber to thereby regulate and control the cooking temperature within the cooking chamber.

Abstract: Set forth herein are positive electrode active material compositions, e.g., lithium-rich nickel manganese cobalt oxides. The lithium-rich nickel manganese cobalt oxides set forth herein are characterized, in some examples, by an expanded unit cell which maximizes the uniform distribution of transition metals in the crystalline oxide. Also set forth herein are positive electrode thin films including lithium-rich nickel manganese cobalt oxide materials. Disclosed herein are novel and inventive methods of making and using lithium-rich nickel manganese cobalt oxide materials for lithium rechargeable batteries. Also disclosed herein are novel electrochemical devices which incorporate these materials.

Abstract: A method of producing a smoking article is disclosed. The smoking article comprises a smoke constituent reducing technology which is capable of reducing the concentration of a smoke constituent generated by a smoking article in use. The method comprises in a first step, determining one or more first lateral regions at which, when the smoking article is in use, the smoke constituent is present at a first concentration, and one or more second lateral regions at which, when the smoking article is in use, the smoke constituent is present at a second concentration which is lower than the first concentration. In a second step, the method comprises producing a smoking article in which the smoke constituent reducing technology is targeted to reduce the concentration of the smoke constituent present at the one or more first lateral regions.
