Patent number: 11181657Abstract: Some embodiments include a sensor assembly comprising a sensor to be carried by a movable component movably positionable about a tool body of a downhole tool. The sensor is to take wellsite measurements and the downhole tool is positionable in a wellbore. The sensor assembly further includes electronics positionable in the movable component. The electronics are to electrically connect to the sensor to receive the wellsite measurements from the sensor, and the wellsite measurements are usable to determine wellsite parameters.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2016Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Assignee: National Oilwell DHT, L.P.Inventors: Gregory Edward Leuenberger, Aaron E. Patent number: 10968733Abstract: Temperature sensing devices and methods for determining downhole fluid temperature at a drill string in a borehole while drilling are disclosed. The device includes a temperature sensor capable of detecting and measuring rapid temperature changes and may be used to sense the temperature of fluid inside or outside the drill string. In addition, the device includes a thermal conductor that receives and secures the temperature sensor; the thermal conductor is in turn received and secured in a thermal insulator that provides a thermal barrier. In an embodiment, the device is disposed in a channel within an outer diameter of the drill string such that the device is protected from the side wall of the borehole and drilling fluid and cuttings can pass through the channel without becoming packed around the temperature sensor.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2018Date of Patent: April 6, 2021Assignee: National Oilwell Vareo, L.P.Inventors: Gregory T. McGinnis, Alamzeb Hafeez Khan, Kevin W. Clark, Gregory E. Leuenberger, Brandon C. Epperson

Patent number: 9574407Abstract: A drill bit assembly that includes a shank including a shank axis, first and second ends, a drill bit seat at the second end and a central flow bore extending axially from the first end. Additionally, the assembly includes a sleeve disposed about and translatable axially relative to the shank and a drill bit rotatably coupled to the sleeve. The drill bit includes a first bit face having a first cutting structure configured to engage an earthen formation, and a second bit face having a second cutting structure configured to engage the earthen formation. The drill bit is configured to rotate about the about the shank axis in a cutting direction, and to rotate about an axis of rotation being orthogonal to the shank axis to selectively expose the first or second cutting surface to the earthen formation. The seat is configured to receive the first or second bit face.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2014Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: NATIONAL OILWELL DHT, L.P.Inventors: Kevin W. Publication number: 20080156501Abstract: Well tool packing element systems that do not require a back-up element or component include a mandrel, an upper supporting member, a lower supporting member, a cantilever element, and a ramp element disposed on the mandrel. The cantilever element and ramp element are disposed on the mandrel with an interface angle between the cantilever element and the ramp element, the interface angle being less than 90 degrees, preferably in a range from 40 degrees to 60 degrees, and more preferably at an angle greater than 45 degrees. When an axial load is applied to upper and lower supporting members, cantilever element and ramp element are forced outward and into an inner wall surface of a casing to seal off the casing bore.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2006Publication date: July 3, 2008Inventors: Justin P.
