    Abstract: A board adapter system includes a first adapter board. A secondary first processor coupling is located on the first adapter board, and the first adapter board passes signals between a primary first processor coupling on a first board and a first processor coupled to the secondary first processor coupling when the first adapter board engages the primary first processor coupling. A first/third processor communication bus extends between the secondary first processor coupling and the second board connector on the first adapter board, and passes signals between the first processor and a third processor that is coupled to the second board connector. A first/fourth processor communication bus extends between the secondary first processor coupling and the second board connector, and passes signals between the first processor and a fourth processor that is coupled to the second board connector on the first adapter board.

    Abstract: A method and system provide local key management for storage enclosures. The method includes retrieving first security content from a security vault of a service processor, then dynamically detecting a hardware interface communicatively coupled to the service processor. A data storage device, communicatively coupled to the hardware interface is dynamically detected. A dynamic determination is made as to whether the data storage device is a self-encrypting capable data storage device. In response to the data storage device being a self-encrypting capable data storage device, a second security content is retrieved from the data storage device, and a validation regarding an association between the first security content and the second security content is made. Finally, in response to a positive validation of the association between the first security content and the second security content, security keys are transmitted to the data storage device, and access to the data storage device is enabled.

The backplane may be re-configured to distribute the bandwidth of a sixteen-lane PCIe bus connection among four drive bays, each using four-lane PCIe links or among eight drive bays, each using two-lane PCIe links. The backplane may additionally support tiered distribution of the PCIe bus connection bandwidth, such as two-lane PCIe links for certain drive bays and four-lane PCIe links for other drive bays. Each two-lane and four-lane PCIe link provided by the backplane is comprised of consecutively numbered PCIe lanes of the PCIe bus connection.

A second fan adjacent the first fan in the fan chassis includes the same number of blades as the first fan. The first fan and the second fan rotate at the same time in opposite directions. The blades on the second fan provide airflow in the first direction when the first fan rotates in the second direction and the second fan rotates in the fourth direction, and provides airflow in the third direction when the first fan rotates in the fourth direction and the second fan rotates in the second direction.
