  • Patent number: 7292864
Abstract: A method and system for tailoring responses from a location-determination system. A location-determination system will receive a position request from a location-based service (such as a PSAP), seeking the location of a wireless communication device, and the location-determination system will provide a position response, indicating the location of the wireless communication device. A rules engine positioned in the communication path between the location-determination system and the location-based service will intercept the position response and will tailor the response in a manner dependent on the identity of the location-based service that sent the request. Advantageously, a wireless service provider can control operation of the rules engine to dictate how to tailor various position responses, without the need to modify operation of the location-determination system.

  • Patent number: 7133670
Abstract: A method and system for providing telecommunication services to a mobile-subscriber terminal roaming between private and public-wireless networks is disclosed. After roaming from the public-wireless network into the private-wireless network, for example, an entity in the private-wireless network executes an application that retrieves from a roaming-agreement database roaming-agreement information for operating the mobile-subscriber terminal in the private-wireless network. Using this information as an input, the application may determine one or more roaming rules for operating in the private-wireless network.

  • Patent number: 7130641
Abstract: A method and system for controlling location-determination in a wireless communication system. A rules engine can be positioned in a communication path between a location-based service (such as a PSAP) and a location-determination system (such as an MPC) and can cache the location of a wireless communication device as determined by the location-determination system. The next time the location-based service sends a position request to the location-determination system, the rules engine can then intercept the request and provide the cached location in a response without passing the request along to the location-determination system. In another embodiment, a rules engine external to a location-determination system can push logic to the location-determination system, to cause the location-determination system to carry out useful functions such as determining if a wireless communication device is fixed or mobile, setting a cache timer, and/or setting an overlap threshold for use in an overlapping circles analysis.
