  • Publication number: 20070253352
Abstract: A method to manage an application-layer-managed network. The method includes receiving a received signal strength indication at an application layer of an access node from a media access control layer of the access node, determining if the received signal strength indication or an averaged received signal strength indication are within a selected range of received signal strength indication. The method also includes transmitting a power-level-adjustment signal to the media access control layer based on the determination. The power-level-adjustment signal adjusts a transmission power level of at least one of a plurality of network nodes.

  • Patent number: 7277414
Abstract: A method of managing a network of sensors in an energy aware manner includes the steps of clustering the sensors to minimize energy consumption, routing the network (step 44), modeling the energy available at each sensor (step 45), and rerouting the network (step 47) when the sensor battery level drops to a predetermined value, or when the energy model is adjusted because it deviates from a sensor's actual energy state.

  • Publication number: 20040019457
Abstract: A method of detecting performance flaws in a network using passive testing includes modeling a communicating finite state machine (CFSM) having a plurality of machines, at least some of which are connected to each other via a plurality of channels, wherein each machine is defined as a single node six-tuple FSM along with a time stamp. An observer is placed at selected ones of the plurality of nodes, the observer being able to compute delays, throughput and utilization. The observer observes input/output sequences for the selected nodes and compares those input/output sequences with predetermined expected behaviors.
