  • Patent number: 11913589
Abstract: Provided are techniques for operating a pipeline that include: determining, based on observed operational parameters of equipment of an upstream process facility, an indirect quality parameter for processed production fluid output from the process facility and routed into a pipeline; determining, based on characteristics of the processed production fluid output from the facility, a direct quality parameter for the processed fluid; determining a quality parameter for the processed fluid defined as the greater of the indirect and the direct quality parameter for the processed fluid; determining, based on the quality parameter for the processed fluid, a model of the pipeline that includes a cumulative water accumulation of a segment of the pipeline; determining, based on the cumulative water accumulation, a water remediation schedule for the segment; and conducting, in accordance with the schedule, a water remediation operation in the segment of the pipeline.

  • Publication number: 20230160873
Abstract: A method for determining the quality of crude oil exiting a gas-oil separation plant (GOSP) is disclosed. The GOSP comprises sensors that determine process parameters of the crude oil. The method involves determining, from the process parameters, WiO-parameters that depend on the concentration of water in the crude oil (WiO), determining virtual parameters of the crude oil, determining total parameters by adding the virtual parameters to the WiO-parameters. Further, a feedback loop involves changing one or more of the total parameters, determining the quality of the crude oil exiting the GOSP, wherein when the quality is improved, the change in the one or more total parameters is maintained, and when the quality is worsened, the change in the one or more total parameters is reversed. The feedback-loop is repeated as long as the quality of the crude oil exiting the GOSP increases.

  • Patent number: 10703987
Abstract: Methods and systems to monitor and control crude oil processing with regards to crude oil specifications for bottom sediment & water (BS&W) and salt are provided. Crude oil processing may be monitored and controlled using key performance indicators (KPIs) that include the desalter voltage and dehydrator voltage as indicators of the BS&W and salt. In response to monitoring of the desalter voltage and dehydrator voltage, a high pressure production trap (HPPT) efficiency and a dehydrator separation efficiency may be controlled via adjustment of a wash water percentage, a demulsifier dosage, a dehydrator interface level, a desalter interface level, and a differential pressure across a mixing valve.
