  • Patent number: 7983863
Abstract: In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for battery capacity estimation. A profile table may be used that relates a plurality of battery profile values with a plurality of operating parameter values. The profile table may be accessed to translate one or more measured operating parameters into one or more corresponding battery profile values. One or more of the battery profile values may be adjusted by a correction factor to generate a corrected battery profile value. The available capacity of the battery may be calculated using the corrected battery profile value. The correction factor may then be automatically calibrated by using an estimated battery profile value calculated from the one or more measured operating parameter.

  • Patent number: 7970429
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for selecting a base station transceiver system for communication with a Third Generation (3G) (or better) mobile station are described. In one illustrative example, one or more base station transceiver systems are identified for communication with the mobile station through a scanning process. A first base station transceiver system is identified as providing a Third Generation (3G) communication service or better, whereas a second base station transceiver system is identified as failing to provide the 3G or better communication service (e.g. it may provide a Second Generation (2G) communication service). The first system is selected for communication over the second system based at least in part on identifying that the second system fails to provide the 3G or better communication service.

  • Publication number: 20110122847
Abstract: Methods, mobile stations and networks are provided that cause a packet data service reconnect to be performed automatically after the occurrence of an event triggering registration, even in some circumstances where such a data service reconnect would not normally occur. This avoids complications that can arise due to the packet data service being discontinued upon registration and the resulting inability to reach the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20110058476
Abstract: Techniques for controlling wireless network operations associated with a flow control process of a wireless network involving a data session established between a mobile station and a service node. The network processor examines quality of service (QoS) data associated with the data session. The network processor causes the flow control process to be bypassed for the mobile station based on the QoS data indicating that the data session is associated with a predetermined traffic class (e.g. background traffic class). This serves to prohibit the flow control process from stopping the flow of data packets in the data session without terminating the data session based on detection of an out-of-coverage condition. Otherwise, the network processor allows the flow control process to be performed for the mobile station based on the QoS data indicating that the data session is not associated with the predetermined traffic class.
