  • Patent number: 8767618
Abstract: Methods, mobile stations and networks are provided that cause a packet data service reconnect to be performed automatically after the occurrence of an event triggering registration, even in some circumstances where such a data service reconnect would not normally occur. This avoids complications that can arise due to the packet data service being discontinued upon registration and the resulting inability to reach the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 8731514
Abstract: Methods for use in a mobile device configured to communicate in a wireless network is described. The mobile device detects whether a a temperature condition exists. When the temperature condition exists, the mobile device presents a visual indication which indicates that the mobile device is in an emergency communication state. The mobile device further operates to prohibit user-initiated communication requests for non-emergency telephone calls via the wireless network, but allows a user-initiated communication request for an emergency telephone call via the wireless network. When the temperature condition fails to exist, the mobile device operates to allow user-initiated communication requests for emergency and non-emergency telephone calls via the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 8725144
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for making use of black-list network information to make scanning more efficient in multi-mode mobile devices. When performing a scan for a network, if a network that is blacklisted is found, scanning is discontinued for any network that has the same radio access technology as the network that was found. Thus, excessive scanning that can be costly for the mobile device in terms of battery life and responsiveness to provide service, is avoided.

  • Patent number: 8687586
Abstract: Systems and Method are provided for managing IP sessions based on how many IP sessions are supported. According to an embodiment of the application, the wireless network determines how many IP sessions can be supported for the mobile device residing in a given area such as a routing area, and to transmit to the mobile device an identification of how many IP sessions can be supported. According to another embodiment of the application, the mobile device receives the identification of how many IP sessions can be established, and manages IP sessions based on the identification. Since the mobile device is privy to how many IP sessions can be established, the mobile device is able to properly manage IP sessions.

  • Patent number: 8666400
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for wireless network selection by multi-mode devices. A mobile device maintains an indication of any wireless network services currently provided to the mobile device. According to an embodiment of the application, the mobile device automatically scans for both GSM wireless networks and CDMA wireless networks in order to acquire a wireless network that can provide a service that is not currently provided to the mobile device. Therefore, the mobile device avoids partial service or limited service when better service is available.

  • Patent number: 8655613
Abstract: A method includes measuring an operating parameter of a battery of a mobile device. The measured operating parameter is translated into an equivalent series resistance (ESR) value. The ESR value is adjusted by a correction factor to generate a corrected ESR value. The capacity of the battery is determined based on the corrected ESR value. The correction factor is automatically calibrated based on the measured operating parameter.
