  • Patent number: 9420079
Abstract: A method and apparatus used in communications devices for associating images with data is described. The method includes the steps of comparing data associated with a plurality of images with data associated with a record and linking an image from the plurality of images to the record if at least a portion of the data associated with the image matches at least a portion of the data associated with the record. The apparatus includes a memory for storing images and records and data associated with the images and records, a processor coupled to the memory for comparing the data associated with the records and data associated with a plurality of images, and a display coupled to the controller for displaying the image if at least a portion of the data associated with the image matches at least a portion of the data associated with the record.

  • Publication number: 20110085088
Abstract: There is provided a system and method for coordinating analog and digital channel mapping features. More specifically, in one embodiment, there is provided a method, comprising performing an analog channel search to identify available analog channels, storing a list of the available analog channels found during the analog channel search, and performing a digital channel search after performing the analog channel search, wherein the digital channel search excludes the available analog channels in the list from being searched.

  • Publication number: 20110047577
Abstract: An exemplary method of identifying program content to record comprises receiving a signal corresponding to a plurality of broadcast programs, collecting data about specific broadcast programs selected by a user from the signal corresponding to the plurality of broadcast programs, adding a one of the plurality of broadcast programs to a list of favorite programs if the user selects the one of the plurality of broadcast programs more than a specific number of times, and recording the broadcast programs added to the list of favorite programs.

  • Publication number: 20080170155
Abstract: A television may be equipped with a closed captioning (CC) buffer for storing CC data received from, for example, cable, satellite or terrestrial broadcasts. A user may operate a remote control to move forward and reverse through the CC buffer to display CC data that the user may have a desire to review.

  • Publication number: 20070076122
Abstract: A digital television signal receiver (20) processes a digital television signal and auxiliary information contained in the digital television signal regardless of whether the auxiliary information is analog auxiliary information (36) or digital auxiliary information (34) and produces a television display signal (44) suitable for displaying the processed auxiliary information. In the case of the auxiliary information being closed caption information, the digital television signal receiver extracts and processes digital closed captioning information according to standard EIA-708 or extracts and processes analog closed caption information according to standard EIA-608. The television signal processing receiver thus allows the user the option of selecting a fallback method of obtaining captioning for a digital program signal if the digital program signal does not include digital closed captioning.

  • Publication number: 20060059275
Abstract: A method and apparatus enables a user to assign a given key on an input device to any specific device on a data bus network connected to the apparatus, and thereby enables the user to quickly select the specific device for control using the given key. According to an exemplary embodiment, the method includes steps of enabling a user to assign a key on an input device of the apparatus to a device on the data bus network that is indirectly connected to the apparatus, and enabling the user to select the device for control responsive to an input of the assigned key.

  • Publication number: 20050166226
Abstract: In a digital television signal processor, digital television channel viewing status (e.g., blocked or viewable) is stored according to the physical channel number of a digital television channel rather than its virtual channel number. In this manner, the selected state (e.g., blocked or viewable) of a digital channel's viewing status is implemented regardless of whether an off-air guide containing virtual channel number data is enabled or disabled. Since the virtual channel number of a digital television channel may not be the same as the physical channel number, storing the selected state of a digital channel according to its physical channel number assures that the selected viewing state is followed.

  • Publication number: 20050166235
Abstract: A system, apparatus and/or method including or embodied as a television signal processor provides a user setting up a channel surf list or parental control list with the option of blocking (prohibit viewing) or unblocking (allow viewing) all available channels at once. This serves as a convenient starting point to save time before editing the channel list since if the user expects that most of the channels are to be blocked, one can start out by blocking all of the channels, then make some of the channels unblocked (i.e. viewable) and/or vice versa. In one form, separate channel surf or parental control lists pertaining to separate television signal inputs are maintained with each list provided with the global viewing status or state setting option.
