Patent number: 10080177Abstract: A small cell base station and method are disclosed for directing packets for the conversion of an internet protocol backhaul communications link into an RF transmit and simultaneously an RF receive signal into an internet protocol backhaul communications link between different air interface technologies. Packets are directed between licensed and unlicensed spectrum according to criteria that are implemented in algorithms running on electronic processors. The small cell base station includes a licensed spectrum baseband module that exchanges packets with the IP backhaul network, and an unlicensed spectrum baseband module that exchanges packets with the licensed spectrum baseband module but not with the IP backhaul network.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2014Date of Patent: September 18, 2018Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Scott Carichner, Khurram Parviz Sheikh, Shankarakrishnan Venkatraman, Jacob Sharony

Patent number: 10028188Abstract: A heterogeneous network which supports multiple communication technologies (e.g., communication in accordance with multiple air interface standards) in a unified architecture can provide near-term solutions to capacity problems. Specifically, in one embodiment, a heterogeneous network that includes both macro-base cells and pico cells and that incorporates longer range wireless air interfaces (e.g., second, third, or fourth generation wireless air interface standards) and shorter range wireless air interfaces (e.g., Wi-Fi) can be provided. Such a heterogeneous network can include the coordination of security, quality of service, assessment of mobility of user equipment, authentication, provisioning systems, and location information.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2016Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Jacob Sharony, Khurram Parviz Sheikh

Patent number: 9883431Abstract: In one aspect, a wireless network management component can manage values for the generation of time to trigger parameters to handover requests between small cells and macro cells in a wireless network. In another aspect, a wireless management component can process various information to manage when handovers between small cells and macro cells should be disabled. In still another aspect, a wireless management component can process user equipment speed information and other network information to determine whether user equipment in communication with small cells should initiate a handover to macro cells.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2012Date of Patent: January 30, 2018Assignee: INTEL CORPORATIONInventors: Shankarakrishnan Venkatraman, Khurram Parviz Sheikh, Rajeev Vokkarne

Patent number: 9693321Abstract: A system and method for dynamically optimizing the performance of indoor distributed antenna systems communicate to user equipment is disclosed. The user equipment measures information describing the downlink signals such as the downlink data rates, the quality of the received signal, and the location of the user equipment. A service module collects this information and determines an optimized power level for each of the antenna units. The service module may optimize only one antenna unit power level or a subset of the antenna units within the distributed antenna system in a preferred embodiment. One or more of the antenna units then transmits downlink signals with the optimized power levels. The optimized power level may be less than the initial power level in a preferred embodiment. As a result, the performance of the indoor distributed antenna systems is enhanced.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2015Date of Patent: June 27, 2017Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Shankar Venkatraman, Khurram Parviz Sheikh
