Abstract: Methods and apparatus for searching a message store on a portable device are described herein. The methods allow a plurality of possible search criteria to be generated and displayed. One or more of the possible search criteria may be selected and added to a search string that is used to search the message store.

Abstract: A handheld device with ergonomic display features, and method there for, are provided. Data is provided at a rectangular touchscreen display. When the touchscreen display is in a landscape orientation, at least one taskbar is provided along at least a portion of one or more short edges of the touchscreen display. When the touchscreen display changed to a portrait orientation: the at least one taskbar is moved to a bottom one of the short edges, when no virtual keyboard is provided, the at least one taskbar is moved to a top one of the short edges when the virtual keyboard is provided at the bottom one of the short edges. Hence, ergonomic access is provided to controls most likely to be used when he touchscreen display is held towards the bottom.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying workspace associations is provided. At a device comprising a processor, a memory, and a display, the processor manages two different workspaces distinguished by one or more of stored data at the memory and applications being associated with one or another of the two different workspaces. Provided at the display is one or more of: a current workspace identifier; and, an application association identifier identifying an association between an active application and a given one of the two different workspaces.

Abstract: An electronic device and method provide for composition of reply messages within a message listing display. A message listing screen including a message listing and input field is displayed, and while the screen is displayed, content is entered in the input field and a send command is detected. In response to the send command, the entered content is sent in a reply message in reply to a selected message in the message listing. The selected message for which the reply is intended may be identified after the send command is detected. The message listing screen can include a preview of the selected message. The message format for the content to be sent in reply may be selected to be different from the message format of the selected message.
