    Abstract: A flashlight includes first and second solid-state light sources, a collimating optical element, and a light guide. Light output by the first light source interacts with the collimating optical element to output a light from the flashlight along an optical axis of the collimating optical element. The light guide includes an outer major surface, a first end, a second end, a longitudinal axis extending between the first end and the second end, and a light input edge at the first end. Light from the second light source is input to the light guide at the light input edge and propagates in the light guide by total internal reflection. The light guide additionally includes light extracting elements to extract light from the light guide with a radial component relative to the longitudinal axis and the optical axis.

The light management features may include one or more features such as a brightness enhancement film, a transflective film, and/or a polarizing film. The backlight has a light emitting structure that may include an electroluminescent structure, such a small molecule organic light emitting device (SMOLED) or a polymer light emitting device (PLED). The electroluminescent structure of the backlight provides good illumination of the light control device at low voltage and low power, and the inclusion of the one or more light management features in the backlight may result in reduction of size, cost, and/or weight of the display device.

    Abstract: A fiber/resin composite whose resin phase is formed by at least initial actinic radiation curing of a resin composition comprising an actinic radiation curable first resin component and a second resin component which is non-cured under curing conditions effective for the first resin component. The actinic radiation exposure of the fiber/resin composition effects curing of the first resin component to immobilize the composite and impart structural integrity thereto, whereby the composite may be handled, packaged, or further processed. Filament wound, braided, and pultruded articles are described, together with associated methods for forming such articles by filament winding, braiding and pultrusion. As a specific embodiment, a solid fuel rocket motor is disclosed comprising a solid fuel body in a filament wound fiber-resin composite casing formed by filament winding of the solid fuel body with resin-impregnated filament or rovings thereof.

Also disclosed is an appertaining method of making such devices.Depending on the depth of the composition which is to be cured in the housing, it may be desirable to utilize the self-leveling liquid composition as either a single homogeneous mixture of the first and second resin components, or, where the depth of the housing is greater than the depth of UV penetration, as a cured mass wherein the first resin component is in a separate and discrete resin layer overlying a lower resin layer containing the second resin component but not the first resin component.

    Abstract: A composition and method for providing temporary masking of electrical and electronic components compatible with a high speed production operation. The composition is a radiation curable viscous liquid composition which provides minimal adhesion properties and substantial cohesive properties so that when cured, it can be readily removed in the manner of an adhesive tape. In particular, the radiation curable composition is characterized by cured properties a) of positive adhesion to the substrate to which the composition is applied, but insufficient adhesion to resist peeling forces applied by hand; and b) of sufficient cohesive strength to allow substantially all of the cured composition to be stripped mechanically or by hand in a single piece. Suitably the adhesion of the cured composition (22) to the substrate (16) as measured in the tensile shear mode, is between about 5 and 55 psi.

    Abstract: Compounds with a plurality of oxirane functional groups can be cured to a fixture in less than one minute with a catalyst composition of a trityl or tropylium salt of a non-nucleophillic anion and a suitable solvent. The catalyst composition may conveniently be extended with liquid polymeric vehicles and acidic fillers.
